I'm spending 16% and I feel like that is way too much. It's 20% with utilities included.

Re: Which Credit Card Should I Open?

I'm afraid that opening up too many credit card accounts will hurt my credits history, thus lower my credit score. Opening any credit card will lower your credit score initially. The main factors being number of credit inquiries increases and average age of accounts decreases. You don't need to ope...

Re: Which Credit Card Should I Open?

I think there's three questions (at least) that need to answer before finding the right answer: - What do I spend the most amount of $ on? gas? grocery? travel? other? - What specific benefits am I looking to reap? cash back? airline miles? hotel miles? universal miles? - Am I looking to churn/MS, ...

Which Credit Card Should I Open?

My credit score is 800 so I would probably get approved for just about any card I apply to. I want to open a new card so that I can increase my amount of available credit, thus decreasing my utilization ratio and increasing my credit score even more. I want a spare card since I have only 1 credit ca...

Good god I hope nobody votes for CapitalOne. They are the worst, they pull all 3 credit bureus. It is like opening 3 credit cards. Their sign up bonus isn't great either. Agreed. Capital One is horrible. When we got it, it was the best/cheapest choice for no-foreign transaction fees; we've been hap...

I am 27 years old
I want to buy a house, as current rates are very low

Question: Buying a House

I have been told that I need at least 3 open lines of credit to buy a house. Is that true? I currently have 1 credit card and 3 student loan accounts. Re: Is 2015 the year for me to open a Roth IRA?

I've decided that I am going to move out of my current apartment as soon as the lease ends. My current rent+utilities is roughly $1,000 per month. By moving out and renting a room in someone's house, I think I could get my rent+utilities down to roughly $500 a month. That extra $500 per month in dis...

Re: Is 2015 the year for me to open a Roth IRA?

Wait, so in terms of the annual limit on a Roth IRA being $5,500, is that limit for each year from Jan.-Dec. or each year from May-April? You are allowed to contribute to a 2014 Roth IRA until April 15, 2015. You are allowed to contribute to a 2015 Roth IRA from January 1, 2015 to April 15, 2016. I...

Re: Is 2015 the year for me to open a Roth IRA?

I voted for the second option. Ideally you would open the Roth now and make some 2014 contributions until April, then 2015 contributions for the rest of the year. But that loan is in the way. Just put as much as you can in the Roth and you might surprise yourself how much that is. Wait, so in terms...

Which Brokerage Firm Should I Choose to Open a Roth IRA?

My 401k is with Vanguard, so I think maybe I should choose elsewhere for a Roth IRA. I am also concerned that Vanguard funds have a $1000 minimum to open an IRA account; other Vanguard funds have a $3000 minimum. I want the minimum contribution to be much lower to allow for more options. I want ther...

Good to hear that everyone thinks my 401K is good.

By contrast, the 401K with my previous company only matched 12 cents on each dollar I contributed, and my total earnings over 1 year was only $15. My new 401K is infinitely better and I love it.

What matters is the future, and what happened recently doesn't inform us about it. The OP's question asked is , but should have asked was . We won...
