Good luck with the new job.

I think “haggling” sales experience is useful for many careers. I worked as an IT lead and manager. I was strong in most areas but “weak” negotiating with vendors. A year of car sales experience would have been useful. Remember that in future resumes and interviews.

Not a tourist attraction but the cheapest place to stock up on stuff is the Costco. We even bought some (cheap) waterboards there and left them with a “free” sign at hotel when leaving. Cheaper than renting. Costco also had nice Hawaiian shirts.

I am not a lawyer. My “estate” experience only includes one with no debt. It may help to decrease the amount of money at stake by specifying beneficiaries on your financial accounts. I have an SE and am happy with it. I prefer the smaller iPhone to fit in my pocket. I wouldn’t buy a 5s. Too old.

That said, even the SE is a bit old now ( Apple stopped selling it last week). But for $180 it’s a good iPhone.

+1 Apple Watch. My old model 0 Apple Watch would run out of batteries after 30 miles of riding but my new series 3 (non cellular) has over 60% battery after 43 miles. I also use airpods to listen to audiobooks (using my phone as the source) during my rides. Works great and never fell out while riding.

I recommend the OP investigate why some of the inheritance is taxable and which tax precisely. Tax on inheritance is unusual. If it was a 401k or IRA I’d expect to receive that as an inherited Ira, not a distribution.

I live in California and use Scholarshare. My kids funds are 100% "Index U.S. Equity Portfolio". Total annual asset based fees is 0.08%. The passive age-based portfolios have total annual asset-based fees in the 0.11% - 0.17% range.

While I like lower fees, I get suspicious when something is free. All companies have expenses. If I’m not paying then I’m not the customer: I’m the product.

I understand from the article there’s some revenue from lending shares. But I’d still be suspicious.

I am happy with my 2018 Subaru Outback entertainment system. The Bluetooth connects with my iPhone fine. If I plug in the wire I get the CarPlay feature set.

Text. I agree with the people who don’t want the code on the same device they are logging in with. I also consider access to my email to be less secure than access to my phone.

Bank of America and Schwab let me choose from 2 phones: mine and DW. I like that feature.

I recently switched my home ooma over to “always go to voicemail” which sends me an email.

Friends get my cell number. Businesses get my home number (which always goes to voicemail). This way my cell number is not “getting out there”.

Thank you all for your comments. It seems clear that I don't need to file an estate tax return for the gains. I'd get nervous about trying to claim a $30k loss and passing it on to the heirs (only $18k of that would go to people with income where it would be beneficial). So I'm not likely to do that...
