Then transferred an old SIMPLE IRA to tIRA then converted that to the Roth I transferred ...

Taxable event, but my income doubled this year so felt like the time to do it

Did I do a backdoor Roth without even knowing to call it that?

Maybe I’m wrong, but I see no point in carrying any debt whatsoever if it can be completely paid off without altering your day to day / month to month life If you can achieve a guaranteed after tax return exceeding the rate on the loan, you should take that deal. Entering a home purchase/mortgage with that much debt sounds like my worst nightmare, but I despite debt

Get rid of those loans before you add the debt of home ownership (that’s what it is)

Brought my lunch to work, as I do most days (and as others have also mentioned in this thread). It's amazing how much $ people will spend on eating lunch out/getting Starbucks every day. (I've never been a coffee drinker, so that helps me save, too.) Even spending just $3-4 a day more on buying lun...

Why I rent: Buying a home in a HCOL in this current market is nothing short of financial suicide, in terms of retirement saving anyway I sat down with my girlfriend and ran the numbers. I said we would only buy under the conditions we put down at least 25% and can continue to both max our retirement...

it's all about the interest rate ... anything above 3 or 4% and I'd take the guaranteed return of paying debt off.
