I see the simple way of doing XIRR - and I am positive based on quick and dirty numbers). However how do I handle the internal transfers due to rebalancing? Okay, I didn't read all of the posts so perhaps this is redundant..but I agree with others in that I hardly understand it and it hardly impacts me, however, that still doesn't make it right. 1) No one should be able to get information before the other. 2) We need to ensure our stock markets operate ...

My personal rate of return over the last 3 years according to Vanguard's website is -0.6% Is this accurate/comparable to XIRR? I also have some CD's so my overall return by their measure would be a bit better, probably positive. Vanguards rate uses IRR not XIRR. Vanguard defines the personal return...

Re: 5/6/10 Plunge is Still a Mystery
Don't we have a responsiblity to find out what could cause such a thing to happen and try to implement changes to prevent it? I would rather have a free market set prices than a government regulator. I don't want a regulator saying when I can and cannot trade, or how much I need to pay for an asset...

I thought an explanation was already given: there was no "price" for a small period because the high frequency trading desks that the markets have increasingly relied on stopped providing liquidity. NYSE also hit their so-called "liquidity replenishment points" (fancy trading ba...

Kindle..confused about the kindle "2"
I am confused about the Kindle . I did a bit of googling and it seems like the newer Kindle 2 is superior to the first Kindle. However, when I go onto Amazon, there is no Kindle "2"? There is however a 6" Kindle and a 9.7" Kindle. The 6" is lighter and has global download ab...

Re: How to asset allocate when you have very little money?
Bernstein sets out a recommendation for investors who are just starting out and don't have a lot of money to invest. See "Young Yvonne" starting on page 271. There's a nifty chart on page 275. You don't need to move your Etrade money to Vanguard, but it will be easier for record-keeping a...
