Not paying as much attention as I used to, so I was pleasantly surprised when I logged on this am and saw little subtle alerts above my mutual funds saying my expense ratios had been returns (FTSE ex-US small cap and short term tax exempt).

Moral to the story:

There is not mad crazy money to be made in selling a "buy-hold-keep costs low strategy" unless you are personally providing financial services and have a ton of clients...or if you are Vanguard.

His philosophy is commendable, his execution apparently suspect.

Because I tilt to SCV (50% of domestic equity), and REITs comprise ~12% of SCV, I don't feel the need to hold them. My bias is to try to keep as few funds as possible, so this desire factors in, too.

Now, I leave mine open and added VTI and some other sample broad ETFs (TIP, VBR, etc) so I know what the market's doing on a daily basis. a) TIAA_CREF has a renowned real estate fund;

and b) you currently have money invested with TIAA-CREF,
