another error i made, once the funds were mingled, they could not then be divided into lots, as i had average cost set up as basis choice.

and i can't sell the entire thing, as there'd be a 2% redemption

just that the year was split on ownership of the TIPS

part under my name, part under the living trust

for some reason i only got 1099 for the apparently prorated time under my name, and had to go online to get the 1099 for the trust part of it

seems to me, that a LTL and a STL are equal; except in the case of when one has LTG, in that case a STL would be preferred over a LTL ;

think its a whoops on TT and VG sides, as i went ahead and switched to the 1040 form and schedule B and the OID is used though it don't show up in the summary , thanks for the info on boxes now i just need to figure out if i'm supposed to tell it if the gains are ST or LT ; i'm not sure why it (TT) ...

it's better to take TLH on STG because they would be taxed as income, whereas LTG have a lower tax rate; so offseting STG,(or if one has not STG) simply taking a loss up to $3000 via STG would be better , if one had a choice of STG loss vs. LTG loss

has anyone noticed that turbotax has a box 1 for the OID, where the TD 1099-OID does NOT

so i enter box 6, however in the summary, there is no "OID interest" in the column

am i supposed to make up a box 1 based on box 6 ?

i guess i have to choose between the super low exp ratio of the VG 500 idx institutional vs. the 3% guaranteed, though presently i'm not using my money markets at VG as I used to, as it pays 0%, i guess for retirement, even 3% is not a way to get to retirement ??

ah so, so it's up to $3000 against income, but potentially larger against the actual capital gains, if there are gains ?
