I would recommend not staying in Hilo (or anywhere on the east side). Stay in Kona or Waikoloa or anywhere in the Northwest side. The east (hilo) is cheap for a reason. THe weather there is drastically different from the west side.

These fees are getting more ridiculous by the day. I am now seeing total fees that are greater than the room rate !
This is such a disgrace on airbnb.

That aside, I have found that AIrbnb is only cheaper if we are going in a large group, like 2-3 families and need like 3-5 bedrooms.

I have been to galveston. I wouldn't recommend it.

You mentioned you have been to the keys (I have been there too). I would say galveston is worth 10% of keys (If such things can be measured).

My current stable is: 114,000 148,000 and 160,000. If it’s a Toyota, Honda or domestic pickup truck, 150,000 is easy without a lot of repair bills. Could you kindly reply from the perspective of the 3 factors I listed in my question? #2 is the opposite - thieves want to steal higher value new cars....

With 100k NW, it is not advisable. Tesla is a luxury at this point. A $15k corolla will do the trick for now. When your NW reaches 15 or 20x the cost of a 'want' car, then it will be ok. Till then, a 'need' car is advisable.
