Re: How to pay down bad debt

I would sell all three and get two reasonable used cars. Even if you take a loss, you are losing much more by not being invested in your retirement. That extra payment at your young age into your 401K will compound much more than you can even realize. Get rid of the debt now. Dave Ramsey is a good a...

There is a trick to being able to use newer apps even though the Ipad is old. My daughter uses her original Ipad to watch Netflix and Dish. We set it up as a wall mount in her room.

Re: Emergency Fund vs. Paying off Loans

I do not take money out of my emergency fund unless it is an emergency. I definitely wouldn’t use it to pay off a mortgage. In my opinion, you should just keep chugging away with the payments. It is not going to really change things much but I would rather have money in my emergency fund during thes...

I always try to let my kids make little mistakes but avoid big mistakes when giving advice, especially when they ask, but for big mistakes, maybe even when they don’t. I think the car question mostly falls in the little mistake category - so you can give advice, but it’s more on the advising side. ...

Run some calculations on a 15 or 20 year rate also. It is probably close to your same current payment and you shave off a couple of years or more. I like your idea of just continuing the same payment. I reset mine last year but I have college payments starting next year that I needed the cash flow.

I think you are already going to be taxed twice. You missed the tax deadline to have it corrected. So I believe you will pay a 6% penalty. The excess when returned will be taxed as a taxable wage.

Re: Another refinance thread..

I wouldn't do it. You were already on track to be mortgage-free in only 8 years. Stretching it out to 30 is a big difference. The only reason that I would stretch out my mortgage would be cash flow problems. You make plenty of income so this doesn't really make sense. I wouldn't borrow to invest.
