Re: How many miles (total) on car before buying another car ?

My last two trade-ins had 292k & 276k miles on them - Volvo's. Actually got more than I thought on trade in value, I was buying pre-owned 'new' car. Current car is XC70 2008 with only 90k, I drive less after I converted to full time telecommuter. As to safety features&accidents my observation in my ...

Re: What A Deal!

I think it depends on how much healthcare you use in a year. A friend has RA and her weekly shot to manage that condition is $7,000, just shot, not any clinic staff related time. So that is $364,000 of services she is getting for less than her group plan of $6,000 year premium. She has also has seve...

Re: Quitting w/o notice

I agree with other posters that giving 2 weeks is better if you are going to be looking for work in the future. If you go this route the bs will be ALOT more tolerable since you know you won't be around. Plus it will give you time to say goodbye, usually there are some great people we work with over...

Re: HELOC AS Emergency Fund

I have a HELOC I keep active, not necessarily for EFund, but more of worst case scenario (2008-12). I'm in the withdrawal phase of life.... It's in my IPS: • In case of severe market downturn, reduce spending to bare minimum. • In case of extended market downturn, do not sell equities and review use...

Re: Retired applying for credit cards

I took a buyout in March, not sure either if I'll stay retired, but had no problem in August getting a Fidelity 2% cash back card. As previous poster mentioned I listed my income as what I withdraw. I use my new card exclusively now, tomorrow Thursday is OP Day at groc store - 10% off, so I will sav...

Critter Ridder isn't toxic... Critter Ridder® is a patented blend of ingredients derived from three different hot peppers that immediately irritates an animal's senses of smell and taste upon encounter . Probably not much different than the garlic/hot sauce/vinegar internet recipe I tried to no avai...

Re: Using credit card rental car insurance

I made reservation well in advance with AutoEurope for pickup at airport in Exeter, England. Used cc card with CDW coverage in UK. When I went to pick up car after landing at airport, they would not honor the CDW unless I had AutoEurope fax them verified cdw waiver (I don't recall the rental company...

Here is an article about 'Dollars for Doers Programs' at companies. The article says 'Currently, over 45 percent of Fortune 500 companies offer volunteer grant programs for their employees. Here are a few examples' https://www.thebalancesmb.com/corporate-volunteer-grants-what-they-are-how-they-work-...

Re: German B&M Non-Blinking vs. Blinking Bike Tail Lights

I am a cyclist and a vehicle driver. In my area in western Wis, I have noticed road recreational cyclists are using blinking tail lights more frequently during the day. Especially on the longer stretches of roads outside of cities, I can see them while driving my car much earlier due to the blinking...

Not sure if the dates will work but as a Books of Kells fan for years I always thought it would be fun to actually stay at Trinity College. Timing worked our for me a few years ago and it was fun (and very reasonable). I see that you can also use their state-of-the-art sports centre, if you want som...

Re: Recommend new TV for 93 year old lady

I'd recommend a ROKU Smart TV, if she already is using Roku. I have a tv with the separate ROKU streaming box and find it does not work as well as my other 2 ROKU Smart TV's (sometimes my Roku streaming box remote pairing gets lost and needs to be reset). I'd also find out what she likes to watch if...

Re: What's the view on dogs running free?

Similar to previous post, I would find out what local ordinances are and in a friendly manner remind dog owners of them. Document it, in case you need to escalate to next level after 'friendly reminders'. I got tired of cleaning up dog s.. from bottom of my shoes from walking in my own yard. I also ...

I live in Mpls area and have not heard of dealer offering rustproofing for long time. Look around and you hardly see rust on cars. So I'd pass on rustproofing, also on extended warranty- don't know what it covers and as a lot of cars have bumper to bumper up to x-mileage you are probably covered alr...

A few years ago it was mentioned to me by my Ins agent as I was getting closer to retirement, Umbrella policy might be good idea since not many years of income left to recover if sued. I have home/auto bundled and 1 Million Umbrella policy was $86 (really $61 since I now get $25 credit on my auto si...

I used to get the 2x salary Until my HR Block tax guy a few years back pointed out the 'imputed income'. As I do not need the life ins, I stopped it, my tax guy usually finds ways to reduce taxes a bit (yes helps justify his fee).
