Re: Factors Suggesting One Should Buy SPIA

Michael McClung's Living off your money has a lengthy description of when it may be beneficial to underpin systematic withdrawals with guaranteed income. However the majority of his discussion is in regards to "inflation adjusted" SPIAs. To get the details and several case studies, I would...

These are very nice cars, especially if you can get a newer one for 20-25k.

Re: Should reliability rankings eliminate Jeep Grand Cherokee?

According to the April 2018 Consumer Reports Auto Issue the JGC 2011 --> 2015 are on the "Worst Used Cars" list. Guess how many Jeep models are on the "Best Used Car" lists? None! Zero. Zip. Nada. So when you are spending your hard earned money, why not buy a good car? This is a...

Re: Should reliability rankings eliminate Jeep Grand Cherokee?

Just for clarification, The Jeep Grand Cherokee High Altitude and others lower to exit the vehicle and raise once in them. In addition, if off roading you can raise them higher. The wheels are 20 inch on HA but can be modified larger if needed. In addition, they can be equipped with under carriage p...

These index annuity's should not be sold as if they are a substitute for a stock allocation. I compare/count them more to the Fixed side than the stock side.

Highly recommend University of Illinois in Champaign- Urbana for overall experience and diversity of majors. Of course my wife and I went there and our son graduated 5 years ago in electrical engineering with a minor in computer science. Great Engineering program

Re: Looking to purchase new car/SUV

Look at CR Annual Review of all vehicles to see reliability of individual models. There's another site that consults individual owners about all makes where they log any/all problems. The RDX is a top performer. I'm out the door to an appointment now and will locate it later. But start with your so...

CR ranks the car manufacuters overall reliability etc as follows: 1. Genesis, 2. Audi, 3. BMW and #4 Lexus, #5 Porsche (see a trend here? Honda is 9, toyota 10 and Acura #22 (Acura has really dropped in CRs view). Where are you getting these numbers? Here is a October 2017 reliability report: https...

If you're very specific in what options and colors you want though and you cant find it used, just go new. You'll kick yourself if you buy a car thats not exactly what you want to save a few bucks. One of my cars was a 3 year old BMW 3 series. It had most of what I wanted but two things were off, I...

You should look at the BMW X3 and X5, if you get a 2016 4 years and 50,000 miles of maintenance is included new ones only get 3 years. Consumer reports ranks the X3 as the top small lux SUV. CR ranks the car manufacuters overall reliability etc as follows: 1. Genesis, 2. Audi, 3. BMW and #4 Lexus, #...

Since based on your post you want to secure your expenses through end of life .... Lots of options, just thoughts (I am not really a Finance Wizard so not recommendation): 1. Consider laddering the SPIA purchasing maybe 200,000 per year over the next 10 years using different companies rated A or bet...

"At the same time we are on the front of what can be many disruptive measures that could alter life expectancy,"

I would think insurance companies can hedge annuity and increased life span with corresponding Life Insurance.
Seems it would be the other side of the coin so to speak.

I have a 45/55 allocation right now, with DW retiring 6 months ago and I plan on retiring this year. For me that equates to 26 years of expenses in fixed income. Wonder if I should just build a 30 year TIPS ladder and be done with it.
