Re: Any downside to WiFi calling?
Also on Google Fi and wifi calling is great for me both domestically and abroad, my area doesn't have great cell phone coverage on any carrier so being able to call via wifi is nice.

Re: Favorite socks?
I like Thorlo socks. I have mostly all black socks, two pairs of navy, one of white. I also have two pairs that are a bit longer for airline travel so they’re no gap between slacks and socks. For Thorlo, I try to find sales where you buy some and get a free pair. I like the build in padding for hee...

Re: Need a Pocket Watch
Unbelievably, a BH forum search turned up exactly ZERO threads on this topic. Loathe (= won't wear) a wrist watch. Haven't carried a watch around with me for 30 years (everyone else had one, cell phones defaulted to showing the time, wall clocks were everywhere (hospital work), etc). Not true so mu...

Re: Value of an Elite MBA
I have an elite MBA and it has been completely worthless other than my international network of spare bedrooms when I travel, nothing beats free places to crash in London, Paris, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Mumbai.

Re: Physical cash
In the US I keep about $200-$300 on me at all time and about 2-3K in the house. In my house out of the country, I keep about 25K in a mix of USD and local equivalent in cash.

Re: Just had our offer accepted on a $1.4 Million House
I totally agree with you dude, if these people actually lived in LA they would tell you to BUY BUY BUY. Renting in LA is ridiculous, that $1.4M house will never depreciate over any five-year horizon.

Re: P2P Platforms for EU investors?
The performance has not been great in P2P over the last few years. I can't imagine how bad it will get if we hit a recession. Even with the economy doing well, the default rate has taken off. The upside doesn't seem to justify the risk anymore, especially considering the taxibility of those investm...

Re: My Favorite Alternative Funds
It looks like SRRIX is sure taking a hit due to these Hurricanes....Not sure if I would want to be in this fund if I was a believer in climate change.

Re: [Need help to review alternative investment portfolio]
Help me decode this... gobbledegook. From the LENDX Annual Report, 2/28/2017 Please confirm my impression that the annual report might be saying: The expense ratio was 4.42%. If the return had, hypothetically, been 5% per year, then during the reporting period the fund managers would have taken $21...

Re: [Need help to review alternative investment portfolio]
This is exactly my concern. I don't think he knows how to explain an interval fund. I don't think he wants my help anymore he sent me a text today that he is going with the advisor with access to the stone ridge funds.nisiprius wrote:It seems faddish to me.

Re: [Need help to review alternative investment portfolio]
I agree with nedsaid. It would be interesting to know the rest of the portfolio to see if it has more BAM fingerprints on it ... but this is not the usual actively-managed high-fee crap one gets from a run-of-the-mill firm. Thanks, he might not be getting fleeced as I originally assumed. It looks l...

[Need help to review alternative investment portfolio]
[Split into a new post from: My Favorite Alternative Funds --admin LadyGeek] First time posting but long time lurker! I self-manage my portfolio with vanguard funds. Recently, a friend came into a substantial windfall. He's been interviewing investment firms about handling my accounts. I have refer...
