Re: Washington GET 529 Reopened: Good deal?

We signed into the GET program just at the wrong time. Increases remained flat and then declined and we withdrew our money 5 years later for the same amount we put it... so basically gave WA state a free loan for 5 years. WA residents have the advantage of no state income tax so basically you can in...

Best way to do it is with exchange sales.... where you exchange 10000 shares of total market fund X with equivalent value in almost total market fund Y. That way your money is never sitting in a cash account while the market goes up or down.

filing a tax return for children ROTH and 529 distribution

So with two kids in college we have taken withdrawals from their 529's for the first time and they are receiving 1099-Q's. In addition, I started ROTH's for both kids and contributed for the 2017 tax year. That said neither earned enough to owe taxes for the year. Can someone tell me if I still need...

Fidelity index with less than 2500 minimum?

I recently started a ROTH IRA at Fidelity for one of my kids. There is 1650 in the account. I'd like to put it in a total US Market index fund but it seems most of Fidelity's index funds have a 2500 minimum. Any suggestions for Fidelity funds I could purchase with this account until the balance is o...

Hey Bogleheads, I'm trying to help a relative with their taxes. She lives in a state with State income tax (I don't). My question is this: If she withheld nothing for State taxes (she is not required to do so) and her total state tax for 2016 was 3000.00 and she paid that on April 15th 2017, can she...

You can get what's called a "trickle" charger that you can plug in and maintain your battery. Furthermore it will extend your battery's life.

That said if you are asking this question I would submit that you are better off using uber and getting rid of the car and associated insurance.

Re: Most reliable water shutoff valves? Plumbing question.

In addition to reliability, ball valves allow for "full flow" when they are fully open. Globe valves create a fair amount of turbulence and reduce the aperture of flow to one below the aperture of the pipe connection creating a bottle neck in flow. Just another reason the ball valve is superior.

If you bike in the rain (road or mountain) often there is simply no substitute for disc brakes.
