Never had an issue with Vanguard regarding cost basis. I use average cost. I have used Quicken for years to enter transactions to track cost basis.(I like numbers :happy ) I always compare my Quicken basis to Vanguard 1099B information. Pay off the car and throw some at the mortgage while you are thinking about the house.
Given your income you should handily fill up the savings account in no time. :happy
Matter of fact I would pay off the student loan before considering a 1,400,000 shelter.

Looking at recent dips in bonds in the past 20 years, I feel safer with some of my fixed income allocation in CD's with zero downside risk. I've heard it quoted on here that you should keep the money you can't afford to lose in bonds, but feel that is not a good theory especially for retirees. Not ...
