Re: Theory: Total World Index a Sure Fire Win [VT/VTWSX]
The only reason I am averse to putting money in Vanguard's Total World Index is that the expense ratio is .18%, which is a bit higher than other Vanguard offerings. I feel like I'm making a mountain out of a molehill though.

Here's an update for you guys. Despite the majority of Bogleheads' advice going against my desires, I went ahead and bought the townhouse with the 15 year mortgage. I'm now married to the GF (who is also now working), and the roommates are working out well. I know it may sound strange to you guys, b...

I have found it pretty easy to make hot sauce from scratch. Pick up half a dozen habenero peppers, stem and halve them, toss some oil on them, and roast them in the oven for a bit. Transfer to saucepan and saute while adding a whole head of garlic, a whole onion, and then some white vinegar(or red w...

If you have paid with non-HSA funds for prior approved expenses and kept your receipts, then you can pull out the amount of the receipts from your HSA at any point in the future. This is a strategy many people use to hack the HSA into another retirement account. MadFientist has written up about that...

It is unlikely that you could benefit from paying the gains now. The only situation where it could benefit you is if you are in a low (0 or 15%) capital gains tax bracket currently, and anticipate that in future years you will be in a high capital gains tax bracket (20%). This is called "capital gai...

I feel like a lot of the repliers are missing one of the main constraints of the problem. I see that the cargo tray has a railing that you must be able to lift over. As someone who has tutored before, part of my mental calculation for how much to charge is based on the inconvenience of going to the meeting location.
Offer to have your kids meet at the tutor's house or other preferred location instead of your house, and negotiate a discount for this.

It sounds like you've paid >100% of last years taxes already. So assuming your AGI is under $150,000 you should have a safe harbor. An additional safe harbor is paying at least 90% of the taxes due for the year so that should cover you too. If AGI exceeds $150,000 for 2017, does the safe harbor for...
