Re: How should one deal with adult children's finances?
Quite a lot of chest beating in this thread, here's mine...my parents religiously sent me $65 ever month for four years, I was on my own for tuition, board and books...There's no right or wrong answer to any of this, I financed four years of college for each of my three kids because I could. Although well intentioned, this practice of issuing edicts to your kids at 18 about what your going to do and not do for them sure can get confusing. My oldest son, who's 36 years old today probably accumulated about 70 credits in that four years of college I promised. I knew he wasn't ready for college but like many parents what do you do with them after high school. My wife and I are helping him today, she flew up to Boston to watch our grandchild for...

I would probably turn it in immediately, but ethically I would be fine picking it up, putting it in my pocket, and tell the manager you found money on the floor, provide my contact information if someone wanted to claim it. I wouldn't tell him how much.

Re: Costco Carpet
I just had a carpet installed on Friday. I didn't check Costco, but I did compare a local flooring store to Lowes and was surprised to discover that the local guys had the edge. I compared olefin berbers with a similar warrantee and the local company quoted me the same total cost with installation, but with a higher grade carpet pad included. They also had a larger selection of the type of carpet I wanted, and were very helpful and responsive. I plan to work with them again. When you work with Lowes they subcontract the labor to a local installer and take a cut. When you work directly with the local contractors you get to choose who you work with, and the labor part of the price is entirely theirs. They can either pass on some savings to y...

not sure what a "minor auto collision" actually means, we're you able to drive the vehicle away from the scene of the accident?...did your wife go by ambulance to the hospital? how soon did she seek medical attention after the accident if not transported by ambulance? she is certainly entitled to much more than $250, insurance companies try to clear these off of their books as soon as possible.

Re: Sarasota, Florida
Don't live there, but have visited there many times in the past ten years. I like the area and there are plenty of bargain properties. A friend of mine purchased a condo there in 2005 for 180K. She could sell it today for 75-80K. If location is a primary concern, knowing which side of Interstate 75 (east or west) you would prefer to live would be important to an agent assisting you in finding properties to consider. I agree with a previous poster that eliminating HOA communities will greatly impact available properties. Siesta Key,IMO, is the best beach on the East coast.

If I were your wife, I would ask myself, if not now, when would it be a good time to leave the company? What does an additional 6 months of her working there do for the team? I suspect 6 months from now won't be a better circumstance for leaving......she needs to do what's best for her and the family IMO.....

Have fun, however, you've chosen a route that will take you close to some of the worst of both cities...Might be the cheapest but certainly not the safest...those bus station (both) are in lousy locations... IMO the best advice was a plane into DCA and a quick subway ride....I wouldn't walk away from either bus station looking for alternative transportation...take a cab, stand right in front of the station in DC

The question you should be asking is where is the aggregate demand coming from? You can't have growth without an increase in aggregate demand, either in your domestic economy or in your major export markets. But with high levels of debt, high unemployment, and with the US and most of its major export markets imposing new austerity budgets what will be the source of aggregate demand increase?

I have exactly the same situation. My system is a Trane and about 30 years old. AC part a little newer. I am trying to decide if I should replace it because I am planning to sell the home within the next year and I know this will be a bone of contention for buyers. System working fine with no problems but is probably not the most efficient. Best price I have for a new system (oil) is about $9500, 15 seer unit with HVAC, humidifier and electronic air cleaner. . I could just provide an allowance, but that does not always seem attractive to buyers either. So the big question is should I do it before putting the home on the market or wait until a potential buyer brings it up and offer an allowance? would including a one year homeowners warrant...
