Re: DSL Advice

As others mentioned swapping out the modem is difficult, in addition to needing century link credentials you also need the correct modem. CTL uses several technologies that are not compatible with each other, it might not even be DSL, it is more complicated than swapping cable modems. The most commo...

Re: [Vanguard ongoing glitches, August 12-13, 2019]

A blog I follow reported it was an issue with the Consolidated Tape System. I’ll skip comment on their opinion but they had some interesting information, they even link back to this thread. http://wallstreetonparade.com/2019/08/shhh-dont-tell-the-public-there-was-a-frightening-glitch-in-stock-market...

Re: Capital One credit card statement late

This happened to me. They are in the middle of changing over some of their software and for some people statement close dates are changing. If yours was toward the end of the month it may be moving and you will wind up with an August statement that covers all of July and the part of June since your...

My guess is that the more likely reason is post office delivery problem - such as being stuck to someone else's envelope.
I opted for paperless, I'm looking at the website version.

Capital One credit card statement late

I've had a credit card with capital one for many years and like clock work they generate my statement on the 29th, until now. When I log in to their website new charges are still being added to the billing period that started on June 29. My assumption is this is something to do with the recent hack....

Re: Low Prius Inventory-change strategy?

I would say in general a plug in version of any car is preferable to the regular hybrid, you will be surprised how much less gas you use. As for the prius specifically, I know someone who had a top trim 2018 Prius prime. They strongly disliked the controls, simple things like a/c controls are buried...

Re: Don't pay full price for SiriusXM radio

I enjoyed Sirius when I had it for free. However, the quality of the sound didn't seem as good as my local stations, especially ones that broadcast in HD. If I lived in an area without a lot of choices, or if I was on the road for a long period of time I could see paying for it. Fortunately the loc...

Re: Is it safe to keep using a phone after it stops receiving security updates?

The risk is a compromised app exploits known and unpatched vulnerabilities to do some unauthorized thing on your device. Android has a lot of mitigations since so many android devices are never patched. Rather than repeat I'll link to their documentation https://source.android.com/security/ . Since ...

Re: iphone purchase

It is a common mistake but the iPhone plus screen is larger than the X. The X is not the same 16:9 aspect ratio of the plus so the diagonal measurement cannot be compared directly to each other.

Re: Value of Arizona State Retirement System

. As far as what you should do, that has to be your decision. 11 years, when you aren't happy, is a lifetime. I went back to a federal government job for a variety of reasons but one was to boost my pension (based on years and high 3 and now my high 3 is much, much higher). Unfortunately the job di...

Re: Value of Arizona State Retirement System

There is some healthcare benefit for retirees. Who knows what that really means to you at age 50 as health insurance premiums are a moving target these days. Also, you would be required to purchase through ASRS rather than through ACA or the private markets. See this link https://www.azasrs.gov/con...

Re: Value of Arizona State Retirement System

NJ operates similar and the Police and fire pension system ( the only healthy one in NJ) offers very very good pension benefits for anyone hired before 2010. Still excellent if hired after. We pay 10% salary and the municipalities pay about 28% of the eonplyees salary. So 100k employee for a total ...

Re: Value of Arizona State Retirement System

Yes, you are crazy if you leave before 50. Is the pension COLA’d? Try replicating it in annuity market, you will need a freighter full of cash to do so. The value of pension is deferred compensation and it’s guaranteed. No COLA. Increases are rare, for existing retirees they have not received an in...

Value of Arizona State Retirement System

I am trying to determine how valuable my membership in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) is. I have 19 years of service in the system and I would need to work for another 11 years to reach “normal” retirement. ASRS determines the annual benefit based on Years of Service * Average Monthly Co...

Re: Cheapest host to buy and sponsor a domain name?

I've been switching from godaddy to google domains. Google seems to charge a flat $12 but godaddy was up to $18 (for .org I think).

google also throws in gmail forwarding and a very basic website for free.
