Re: Do people in HCOL areas have a higher net worth and more wealth building potential than LCOL?
I moved from HCOL to LCOL about 13 years ago. Spent about 10 years living in California, both northern and southern. We left California in 2006 at the height of the housing bubble. Tried buying multiple houses and townhouses when our new child was born, and kept getting outbid with 12+ offers on eac...

Re: Does anybody replace HVAC capacitors presumptively before they fail as part of maintenance?
I had a furnace cap go bad a few months ago. It was actually one of the good brand made in USA ones. Debugged it, and found the capacitor was leaking. 17 year old furnace. Took the opportunity to change the one in the second furnace since it takes about 10 minutes. Then went and changed the one I'm ...

Bought a new vehicle, dealer offered $1000 for the trade in.
Washed the old vehicle, took some pics with my phone, and sold it on Craigslist for $5200 within 30 minutes of posting, with buyer paying in cash.

Re: Crypto bulls are back. Are you getting in?
Noone clearly has any idea what will happen to Bitcoin. I do not normally gamble on such things, but I started with a few Bitcoins at around $550. Then as the rest of the cryptocurrencies started becoming more popular, I figured I would do the most Boglehead thing possible for investing in cryptos, ...

Re: Do Fidelity Offices/Advisors Add Value?
I visited the local Fidelity office once (5 minutes from my home). I went in to ask for their offerings for fixed income. To me that meant CD's, Bonds, etc. To the advisor, that somehow was interpreted as an opportunity for a sales pitch for their advisory services. I have no idea how he made the co...

We bought a ski condo 6 years go. The prices were super low at that time, and even with the good prices, I thought that we would lose quite a bit of money after HOA fees and taxes. In those 6 years, the value has more than doubled, the yearly gross revenue has more than doubled, we use it all the ti...

Re: Buying a 2019 RAV4 hybrid - how to pay for it?
I've read a few reviews of the 2019 Rav4 and the road noise was called out as not great. It is a big purchase for 100 miles round trip. Yes, I was about to buy one until the test drive, and I was amazed at how loud the road noise was.... supposedly the Hybrid version is a little quieter and has sou...

I was making the same decision. Drove the cx5 as well, which was fantastic, but felt small inside to me. I was waiting for the new rav4 since it was announced last year, and was pretty convinced that is what I was going to buy since I usually buy Honda's and Toyotas. I test drove the Rav4, and the r...

I love in Colorado. Get the snow tires. Although it may not be "necessary", the difference in traction is huge. As far as cost, the way I look at it is that the cost is minimal. Although snow tires wear out faster in my experience, you are not using your summer tires in winter, so they last longer. ...

Re: Anyone raised 3 kids WITHOUT buying a 3-row vehicle?
Another vote for the minivan especially if you go on roadtrips. We have three kids, and got the 8 seat version of the Sienna. For long trips, we lower the entire third row, all the kids sit in the 2nd row, and we have TONS of space for bicycles, luggage, camping equipment, etc. And as stated many ti...

2006 Honda CR-V 147,000
2009 Toyota Sienna 150,000
The Toyota is great, only basic maintenance. The Honda needed a new A/C compressor and alternator in the same year (last year). Other than that just normal maintenance.

I am guessing Toyo's are better now. I had some about 15 years ago on an accord, and they were the worst tires I have every purchased. The slightest rain, and they would lose traction. Driving on the highway was an experience, the car would literally hydroplane every time it rained. I guess that was...

Anyone know of why the EJ agent might do this?
Does it make his metrics look better because if he loses an account it may count against him but if he "fires" a client it perhaps does not?

I ordered some LG appliances from Costco. They outsourced it to some provider LG used. That's all well and good, but what do I do if after waiting 3-6 months for my car, they add additional dollars to it? It's tough to say, "that wasn't our deal," and then wait another 6 months for the car from dealer 2. This happened to me once. I ordered a minivan. After two months when the vehicle...

1) We bought a GE Profile dishwasher about eight or ten years ago and it was really awful. Combine that with bad experiences on two GE microwaves that each lasted only a couple of years before literally going "bang!" and emitting a puff of smoke, and we've pretty well had it with GE. The front pane...

Interestingly enough, this just happened to my Moto g5+ phone this morning. It started doing a boot loop, and then factory reset itself. Really annoying! Phone seems to be working fine after the factory reset, so probably not a hardware issue. The phone is running Android 7.0.

It was also cheaper than the SUV options we looked at. Carrying 8 people and all their ski gear is amazing. No reason to buy the S...

If so, having assets could cause problems with SSI/Medicaid payments in the future and a trust may be a better savings vehicle.
