The culture in many IT positions is such that people want to leave, too. You can only work 50-60 or more hours per week for so long. So are older people moving to different places?

offshoring is also a huge problem I have skirted the edges of for years.

I think what you really need is a threaded issue/defect tracking system and/or a WIKI so that you can keep this type of information organized and useful in the future. I am amazed at the number of people, in a business setting, who refuse to answer the phone when it rings. The youngsters are the worst offenders. It's a way of forcing you to send an e-mail. Then, when they finish goofing off on Facebook, or Internet shopping or gossiping they'll get back with you....

I've found that getting my email on a Unix/Linux machine is useful, because I can use command-line tools to rapidly assess and delete email (I can type faster than I can click).
