Hi all, So good to hear of the interest here in AZ. Just to see what kind of consensus we have, what day/time works best to hook up? I'm open to just about anything because I want to see this group happen. For the first few times, let's keep it informal and fun to build the bond. Our commonality wit...

Phoenix, AZ Bogleheads?

Are there any Phoenix, AZ Bogleheads out there?

This is the 5th largest city in the US. Let's get something going. I'll get it coordinated if there's interest.

Thanks for the correction between closed and open. I must have been half asleep. Why would google, yahoo, Kiplinger's, and M* all have the same data, but Vanguard's is different? http://finance.google.com/finance?q=NYSE:VWO http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=vwo 12.90% http://finance.google.com/finance?q=...

Variations in closed end fund vs. ETF % changes

Why is this?

11/21/08

VWO - Emerging Markets ETF
12.90% daily change

VEIEX - Emerging Markets Index
6.99% daily change

Should a closed end and ETF move pretty close to each other in percentage fluctuations?

Jack’s publisher, John Wiley & Sons, has launched a new website dedicated to the book, and registered users there will be able to read the book’s Introduction.

I'm 35 years old with 70/30 (domestic/international) mix in all equities. (see my sig for fund details). Within the 30% Intl it's 20/10 (Developed/Emerging) markets. Why these numbers? I'm finding that there are a few companies that are not held in the major Vanguard indices. No worries, at least I have a very broad mix at low cost.

Not at all,

The idea is to quickly find if I truly hold all the world's stocks ex. Canada (see my sig for my holdings). I friend at work was bragging about his individual stock picks.

I want to take satisfaction that the index strategy holds a little bit of everybody.

Full listing of mutual fund holdings

Everywhere I look, most financial websites give the Top 10 holdings of a mutual fund. Vanguard allows you to view the holdings at 50 companies per page. How can all the holdings be viewed on a single page or better yet be downloaded into a spreadsheet. The idea is to make the holdings easier to sear...

I just recently read the new chapter on Behavioral Finance only found in the 9th edition of Random Walk Down Wall Street and in it Dr. Malkiel talks about Loss Aversion (Chapter 10, page 229). By studying the results of several researchers, he found that Prospect Theory states that "a dollar loss is...

The RAID controller should chose the functioning drive if it is working right. I just had a server where both the controller and daughterboard it connected to had to be replaced. The drives ended up being fine.

Probably the biggest factor to remember is it's not about "market timing", but "time in the market". According to Ibbotson: 1. There's never been a 15 year time period where the S&P hasn't at least broke even. 2. The WORST 20 year period since 1950 has beat inflation. 3. The WORST 25 year period sin...
