Re: Refinance Mega Thread

Question regarding recast. We are about one week out from closing our refi and we owe about $143k on our current mortgage and HELOC. The loan amount is for $150k with 10 years left on the current mortgages but we're refinancing to a 15-year for a lower rate and paying extra to get it down to 7 years...

Re: Refinance Mega Thread

Looking for recommendations on finding a no-cost $147k 15-year refi at <2.5% for consolidation on a Primary and Heloc. My lender credits just dropped when they removed the Escrow fees which increased my closing cost so looking for a better deal. I guess I can expect fluctuations until I lock. Ally B...

Refinance Math and Sense

Looking into a refinance consolidation and wanted to see if refinancing is prudent. This is not about lowering payment but saving on interest and faster payoff. Also, I have an ARM on the Heloc and my current rate might not last past a year so I would save even more interest by consolidating. Mortga...

Today I was offered 15-year all the way down to 2.125%, with 2.5% ending up with $200 in my pocket or 2.375% ending up with $300 in closing costs. Or, on the 30-year, I had options all the way down to 2.375%, with 2.75% at $150 in closing costs or 2.875% for $650 in my pocket after all credits. Bot...

Re: Refinance Mega Thread

Trying again with Better on merging 1st and Heloc at 4.25% and 3.25% with 10 years left on 1st and 6 years on Heloc. Are they still doing Amex? My new submission increases the closing costs while lowering the rate and a smaller loan amount. I'd rather not pay points but other lenders didn't want to ...

Re: Refinance Mega Thread

I could use some refinance advice. I have a first and a HELOC. I wanted to consolidate them into one loan but Better offered a 15-year and a cash-out - I haven't locked in a rate but I am hoping for 2.50%. My goal is not a smaller payment but obviously saving in interest costs while also paying off ...

Re: tIRA and 401k RO - Commingled dollars and consequences

These amounts look tiny, and is there any reason why you don’t want to convert everything to Roth and be done with it? No more pro-rata rules or worry about tax consequences at the time of withdrawals. The total account value is $38k and I wasn't for sure if that was taken into consideration becaus...

tIRA and 401k RO - Commingled dollars and consequences

After my wife left two jobs, I rolled over her 401k's to a TDAmeritrade tIRA in 2004 and 2007. We've been contributing after-tax dollars since and have purchased stocks and funds over time. I am not necessarily looking at reclassifying anything right now, but I was told by TDA that when it's time to...

Re: House and HELOC refi advice

So ... what index does your second mortgage use? How often does it change? What are the caps for the periodic increases, and what is the maximum rate? ARE you contributing the maximum to any available tax-deferred and tax-advantaged retirement plans -- such as a 401(k) and IRA? jimb what index does...

House and HELOC refi advice

I have never refinanced so I could use some advice on the numbers and whether it makes sense and cents. We started with a 25-year loan, no PMI or Escrow required. We have 13 years left on the loan, original loan amount $218,818.00. This is a private loan through BOA and we never qualified for HARP o...

Ameritrade calculated my split incorrectly?

I am revisiting a concern I’ve had with Ameritrade. Maybe I can’t math or it’s new math but please review and let me know if Ameritrade is incorrect. On 09/15/2004 I purchased TASR shares 50 x $42.35 = $2,117.50 + 10.99 commission = $2,128.49.  On 11/30/2004 the stock split 2:1 giving me 100 shares ...

Re: Payoff a HELOC advice requested

Thank you for the replies. Regarding how much tax I would pay on the SPP sell: I am not certain of the exact tax implications for SPP, but I actually might be fine on tax as the SPP offering dates were January and July of 2015 so it should be a taxed as Qualifying Disposition. I should state that we...

Payoff a HELOC advice requested

I need some advice and the answer is probably quite obvious. I am in my early 50's with a family and we have two mortgages. The first mortgage is a 25-year mortgage that has 13 years left on it with just under $148k at 4.25% and the est value is $196k - $206k, well below the $220k we paid. The mortg...

Help with 8949 cost basis

I paid tax on an option sell and it appears my tax software requires an adjusted cost basis added so I don't get double-taxed. I don't know how to compute it and could use some help please. This from my broker statement: 11/10/14 entry date 600 shares $33.3510 execution price 10/30/09 grant date $19...
