Glad to hear you're simplifying. Inherited ira has required distribution so would put more bonds there so you can allow equity to grow tax free.

1) Picking funds. I was thinking of opening a Roth IRA and maxing it out since I don't expect to need the money and a taxable investment account for the remainder. Both of these accounts I would manage. My plan would be to keep both of our 401k mainly bonds. Mainly index funds in the taxable accoun...

donating effectively to avoid fees?
Hi all, I'm trying to donate (relatively) larger amounts of money, e.g. 10k+ to national/international charities (e.g. unicef). However, when I try to donate online, I'm running into fairly significant processing fees (e.g. $500-1000) if I try to donate by card but can't donate by check (or I don't ...

Yikes, I guess I should have paid, ugh. I'll call them to double check. If so, will the irs send me another bill? Or should I try to calculate it myself to avoiding getting extra penalities? Couldnt find details on this anywhere.

So essentially my accountant filed my taxes (saying I owe), I realized he had made a mistake which changed it from a bill to a refund (and he agreed with that). Agreed that likely this frequent 'rebalancing' is not really necessary, so perhaps I should just slightly change the AA instead? As for the current plan, if contributions aren't enough, when my next quarterly rebalance comes around, I would sell stocks from my 401k and purchase bonds to rebalance. ...

You are essentially rebalancing more (definitely studies showing this much rebalancing is not beneficial) and you are maintaining a higher stock allocation. Once the stock market improves, when are you going to rebalance out of stocks? 10%? 20%? 40%? And what if that happens in 5 years?10 years? Tha...

I think you can hit 100k. However, I would be careful in hitting this "goal" - that's assuming there is not a depression or something like that. 4% withdraw rate puts you at $4000 yearly without ss etc. On the other hand, your income bracket is low enough (and likely will be in retirement)...
