Re: Stimulus help for small businesses, sole proprietors, s-corp etc

From the bill. (A) IN GENERAL.—The amount of loan forgiveness under this section shall be reduced, but not increased, by multiplying the amount described in subsection (b) by the quotient obtained by dividing— (i) the average number of full-time equivalent employees per month employed by the eligib...

Re: Stimulus help for small businesses, sole proprietors, s-corp etc

It appears to me that you can take advantage of both extended unemployment and PPP (7a loans):

Furlough your employees
You and your employees can file for unemployment
You can apply for PPP
Rehire your employees as of the closing date of the loan

At least, that's my reading so far.

Re: Volkswagen Reliability

I had a 2010 VW GTI I sold earlier this year with 110K miles. It had a couple of issues: Just after the factory warranty expired (maybe 40K miles), the airbag light came on. It was a non-serviceable part, and the entire airbag had to be replaced. Within one week of the airbag being fixed, the check ...

Re: Want a Safe Car, Feel Guilty

Have you thought about a 2015 Hyundai Genesis? High mass, high safety rating, V6, all the safety features if you get the Tech package. You should be able to find one off lease for < $30K and < 30k miles. They also have a warranty up to 5 years or 60k miles.

Re: Change in "career", PA or Optometry?

[/quote] Perhaps it depends on your plan-are you with Kaiser Permanente or something like that? Or a private Ophthalmology practice? They do mix optometrists into the medical area, I have a friend who works in the ER at KP and is in charge of triage related to eyes and refers things on that are beyo...

Re: Change in "career", PA or Optometry?

Optometrist here. I would not encourage my children to go into optometry. 1. Currently, there is an oversupply that will only get worse. Over the last 5-10 years a number of new optometry schools have opened, and many more are in the planning stages. 2. Commercial practice is taking over. Personally...

Re: eyeglass prescription question

Also keep in mind the standard for eyeglass fabrication allows an error up to 0.125 of a diopter. Therefore, if you are already underminused by 1/6 (the difference between 20ft and infinity) and you add in a pair of "correct" glasses that are over plussed by an 1/8th, your prescription is actually o...

Re: Cheaper car for someone who enjoys cars?

I love, love, love, my 2010 GTI. It's fun, get's good gas mileage, and can be had in the mid 20K range.

Based on your description of what you're after, I would give a GTI a test drive.

Re: Best Value for a Used Odyssey

OP here. Why: I just starting to lose trust in our current van. Maybe I'm just overreacting? How much: I wouldn't want to spend more than $15k. I could afford to pay cash for a new one, I just don't want to take the deprecation hit. Also, one of the best things about an older van is not worrying abo...

Best Value for a Used Odyssey

DW and I have a 2003 Honda Odyssey with ~250k miles we are considering replacing with another Odyssey. Now that the kids are older, we don't anticipate needing a van for another 12 years so we have been looking at used vehicles. I'm hoping to get maybe 6 yrs or 100,000 miles out of the new van. Like...

Applying with multiple mortgage lenders

Can I apply with more than one mortgage lender as the same time? My situation: After many years of employed professional practice, I have gone out on my own in a different city. Now that I am self-employed, I am concerned about qualifying for a mortagage with today's lending environment. My credit u...

I've had a 2010 GTI for just over a year now. Before the GTI, I never owned any other car other than a Honda. I, too, was concerned about the reliablility, but the GTI blew away my Honda in the "fun to drive" factor. I've been pleased with the GTI. No mechanical issues to date, and it is a blast to ...

A couple of things about progressive lenses. As previously mentioned, a proper fit is critical. All progressives have a fitting cross that's about 2x2mm that needs to be aligned in the center of the pupil. Measuring the binocular pupillary distance alone will not cut it. One needs a monocular PD for...

Thanks for the help. It seems sort of crazy to have folks to "contribute" to a traditional IRA then immediately convert to a Roth. Why not just allow anyone to contribute to a Roth directly? Either way, I'm happy to have the Roth available.

Converted to Roth in 2010-What about 2011?

My wife and I converted our traditional IRAs to Roths this year, but I'm not sure what to do in 2011. Our AGI will be too high to contribute to the Roths going forward. Can I contribute to a traditional IRA then immediately convert to a Roth? Is there a "holding period" in a traditional IRA before y...

We ended up going with the Michelin Harmony tires. The "generic" tires the store offered (uniroyal?) were not cheap enough to risk the unknown. Thanks for all the suggestions. We live in a small town in a rural area and try to frequent the local businesses. Therefore, no online/costco/walmart for us...

Tires for Honda Odyssey

We need new tires for our 2003 Honda Odyssey. It will be 6 yrs old next month and has 135,000 miles. Typically, I buy Michelin tires for my wife's vehicle, however, I'm a little wary due to the age of the van and cost. The tire dealer quoted me ~$725 for a set of Michelin Harmony 225/60-16 tires (ra...
