Thanks for the responses, my health insurance is fully covered in my pension until Medicare. My current monthly expenses are approximately 2000 dollars. If i sold my taxable position(total stock index), my capital gains would only amount to 10,000 dollars.

This is one subject I can answer. If possible try to time it so you cross the GWB at either 4am or 11am. The whole process looks very easy. I no longer have the paitence or desire to engage with a salesman. Alot of the vehicles that I was looking at also had free shipping. They may have hit on something with this angle

Anyone have any opinions of the Vanguard Balanced Fund as a one in all core holding for a IRA. A time horizon of 10-12 yrs. How would it compare to the retirement funds. I should mention that I can purchase the admiral shares of either funds.

I just looked at my internet bank savings account, under 2 percent now. Where is everyone keeping their cash. This money is not needed to pay bills. would anyone suggest maybe a dividend fund or utility stock? I just want to earn a little more than the under two percent.
