Re: Wiper blade replacement

It depends. I was able to replace just the insert on my 16 Camry, but the only place I could get the inserts was the dealer.

I have a feeling once you swap the OEM wiper out, you will not be able to put in a new insert....

Re: Tenants want to break lease early and is pregnant

Talk to them and see if they will be helpful in keeping the unit clean in show condition as well as very flexible on showings. If you the unit needs no work to turn it and they are easy to work with for showings let them go free. Tenants can make your life difficult with showings (messiness/inflexib...

Re: The Economics of a new Puppy

Although I really want to, my only comment will be that I won't comment on "buying" a dog. Just rescued a pup seven months ago. She was crate trained from the rescue group and while I was always against crates, found the dog to love it and us to love it as well. Frozen Kongs with peanut butter will ...

Re: Memory Foam Mattress Recomendations

When our spring mattress started dipping after ten years I looked and looked and decided on a firm Brooklyn bedding foam mattress. Wife was very skeptical but now insists she loves the bed. They are a bit warmer than regular mattresses but I love it. Great night sleep. I heard Costco version bed is...

Re: When to give resignation notice

I would definitely wait until a couple days or even a week after you know for certain you are fully vested. Expect to be walked out the day you give notice, and if you are not then you can choose to finish out your notice work. Find a way to make the start date at the new job accommodate that. +1 W...

Re: Self insuring

If a large judgement were to come against us: 1. Our state says liens on properties last 10 years, we have no plan to sell. 2. Retirement accounts exempt. This is the bulk of our assets. 3. Max 25% of wages can be garnished in my state. We can quit work now. 4. Social security can't be seized. I ex...

Re: Self-drafting prenuptial agreement in CA

I would not suggest a do-it-yourself approach. (or with wills for that matter) At least in Connecticut, if each party does not have their own independent counsel (attorney), a prenup is unenforceable. I'm not sure of the rules in CA but I would think it best to look into them. 3k is cheap insurance ...

Re: Pre-nup questions

Have her go to a reputable family law attorney for the pre-nup. You can PM me if you would like a good referral. All of the other questions she should go over with her attorney. Granted, she needs to be comfortable about what she wants to do and how to handle the day-to-day finances but she needs to...

Re: Thinking of buying a house while active duty

As a fellow AD guy here, I tend not to want to purchase for the following reasons: 1. Do you really want to be a long-distance landlord for the next 17 years? Have you ever been a landlord? If not, speak with one before you get into this situation. 2. At three years in you have no way of knowing if ...

Do it with a black Canon cartridge-worked fine. Only issue is that the "low ink" indicator stays on all the time.

Re: Private equity investment

Just one housekeeping thing to consider: be prepared to spend a lot more money on tax compliance. Out of law school I worked for a Big 4 in their personal services and some of the K-1s are so complicated there is no way a local CPA can handle efficiently . At the very least you are might need to mov...

Re: Any tax attorneys out there? [CPA considering law school]

I've worked with both a CPA and a tax attorney. In all candor, my CPA is a better value proposition. This is also an important consideration. Due to this common sentiment, a lot of tax attorneys end up concluding that the safest place to practice "tax" is at a Big 4 accounting firm (and if you end ...

Considering you already indicated you have a Costco membership-I can tell you what I eat almost every day for lunch. I usually prep a few at a time on Sunday. I make a salad with all Costco stuff. I buy shaved Brussels/kale/brocolli salad mix, put in a container, shred a Costco rotisserie chicken (i...

Re: Renting out a private room in primary residence

It sounds like its a "in-law" apartment which typically does not have separate utilities. In the northeast, if a house is not zoned for a multifamily you cannot rent it out and have separate utilities. Even if it is in a zone that allows for duplexes, if your house is a single family on the assessor...

Re: Advice needed on lawyer's retainer agreement

Lawyer here. I agree with Texas-look until you find no negative. If cost is the negative then it is really not negative. You can try to negotiate a lower rate but that will encourage extra billing. I can tell you that I "eat" lot's of my time because I don't like to nickle and dime people. Most lawy...

Re: Legal Fees for Trusts and Wills

I am an T&E attorney in CT. It all depends on the size of your estate and what you want to do. And when I refer to size I mean now AND going forward. Just because you might be under the "taxable" amount today does not mean you won't be if something were to happen to you in 5 years. In Maryland, the ...

Re: Where to buy nice men's dress shirts?

I've been listening to Jim Cramer for many years regarding this and always buy mine at Costco. From my limited experience with high-end brands, the differences seems to be nill. Evevn if I do not get as long of a wear compared to BB, the fact I don't worry about spilling anything on them and conside...
