Re: Has investing conservatively ever paid off over a career?

I held Wellington in my 401K for most my working years. Like folks stated, I maxed out my 401K about 2/3rds of those years. Savings rate is super important.

Never understood those that could easily afford it still keeping 15+ year old cars when current ones have very useful and valuable safety tech that isn't available on older vehicles. Tech like auto-braking, audio and visual warning alerts, collision avoidance, improved crumple zones, hardened cages, reduced rollover risks etc can be life saving. I know most say they can pass on many new convenience features but safety isn't something one should compromise.
My last two Toyotas {Camry + Highlander I owned 17 + 16 years. I wanted to retire early + focus on other things. Safety I agree. Own a new 2021 Subaru. The auto braking saved me once from what would of been a bad accident.

They made better choices and worked hard and sacrificed. No there parent were far from wealthy, they promoted embracing education. Nothing wrong with blue collar jobs. In 2021 dealerships made more money than ever. Some are charging way more than 5000.00 over MSRP. Dallas Toyota is charging 56 thousand for a new 35 thousand Camry. See YAA website. Your advocate Alliance. They dive deep into chip shortages + dealerships. Ex dealers. Hey if you don"t mind paying high go for it. It does ruin it for the not so wealthy guy. Best wishes.

Dealerships are into greed today. Unethical. Many not all. I am holding on to my car as long as I can. When time comes to buy, I will remember the dealerships that adjusted the price way above MSRP. Will not be visiting them.

Few months ago I purchased a new 2021 Subaru Impreza Hatch Base model. Got it for a wee bit under their listed price. A few small add ins thrown in. Subaru is known for not haggling much. Plan on keeping it for a long time. Sold my 16 year old Highlander. Before that had my Camry for 17 + a half years. Before that had a Corolla that I gave to a family member. Love Toyota but just felt like a change. Life is short. Drive what you like.

Re: Hood Scratches New Car

Got scratches from riding through long plastic sleeves to a car wash. I was suppose to wait for guys to hold them open like the sign said, but I had much on my mind and did"nt notice it. Yes I feel like a dope, my fault. Scratches are a couple of inches long. Sometimes can"t see them, other times can if bright sun beats down on them. Auto guy said went through gloss can not buff out. He said he can paint hood if it really bothers you. Maybe wait till winter is over + then decide.
