I wanted to write that VBR (aka VSIAX) and VSS are some of the least tax efficient index funds that I own. One should consider keeping them out of taxable accounts and have them only in tax-advantaged accounts where TLH partners are unneeded.

You can look at the distributions tab of VTSAX at Vanguard.com to extrapolate your tax liability. For many taxpayers, the tax liability would be zero.

A wash sale is not illegal. If you create a wash sale with VTSAX, then you will see how your broker adjusts the basis in your shares and how the 1099-B shows up. If you buy more VTSAX in the 30 days after 10/23/2018, then that will create a wash sale, but so what?

You can sell VLCAX today and buy VFIAX based on the info you have presented, but it is possible you did not present all the info.

1. No. I have never seen any broker including Vanguard keep track of one's personal holding period when it comes to dividends.
