Re: Southwest Companion Pass Offer
It's a good offer and for a couple who fly on SW, a companion pass is fantastic. Either me or my spouse has had a CP since 2014 and it's a terrific deal. Your bonus points and CP should post within 48 hours of your statement closing date, so that's the soonest you'll see the bonus post. Chase typically takes 2 days for transactions to post so keep that in mind when trying to reach the $4000 spend requirement. The reason this is important is if you wait until the closing date to make the purchase that takes you over $4000, you'll have to wait until the next billing statement closes. Do you know if the sign up bonus posts after the statement in which you reach the minimum spend, or does it post after the three month period regardless of when...

With Robinhood Retirement, you can put a little bit in today, and get extra on every dollar. Just sign up, transfer any amount from an outside account, IRA, or 401(k), and get a 1% match on us. Yes, what is interesting is I signed up for Gold nearly two weeks ago and have already transferred one IRA over and got the 3% match. You can then (usually) do a rollover into a Fidelity IRA which you can then do a trustee to trustee transfer to Schwab. This is the definitive answer when rolling out of a fido 401k. Get it electronically into a fido IRA (Roth or otherwise) based on your sources. (Pre/after tax or Roth) Then transfer (or don't) to Schwab. Curious to know what the benefit is in doing this, as opposed to rolling over directly to Schwab other brokerage? We have a Fidelity 401k from previous employer that we're going to rollover to Robinhood for the 3% match. A 401(k) rollover to another brokerage almost universally requires the mailing of a paper check. Rolling over to an in-house IRA can typically be done electronically, as can the subsequent ACATS transfer ...

If the person who sold you the car has or will be been prosecuted, I would contact the prosecutor's office and see if you have any options as far as being named as a recipient of restitution. If and when the person is sentenced, the judge can order them to pay restitution to you and any other victims. Many times the judge will make full payment of restitution a condition of the defendant completing their probation, so it's often a motivation for them to pay.

Projecting investment balance in Excel
I'm trying to run a simulation in my retirement spreadsheet in order to come up with a range of balance possibilities. I have actual approximate results of an 80/20 portfolio from 1928-2022 in one column (B23:B117), and my yearly balances in another column. Does it make sense to multiply my yearly beginning balances by a random actual historical result in B23:B117, in order to arrive at a projected growth rate for each year? This is what I'm doing but the results are way too high, I think:
=Current Balance*INDEX($B$23:$B$117,RANDBETWEEN(1,ROWS($B$23:$B$117)))
Also, I am subtracting each year's beginning balance by projected withdraws, and adding in previous year's growth.
Thanks for any help!

Thanks for the information, that is news to me! As a follow up, I wonder if there's a way to track this investment with yahoo finance which I've been doing for years? You'll probably have to resort to logging into the workplace plan's website to get an updated share total and share price. Quarterly should be plenty often enough. Regards, Ugh, I was afraid of that! .... Remember to just track by value, not share count or share price. E.g., if you have $20,000 in it and it's similar to S&P 500, take the $20,000, divide it by the current share price of VOO (or the mutual fund equivalent) and enter in that number of shares. It will track it pretty closely. Yep this is what I ended up doing and it's a good solution. Thanks.

State Street fund - Need ticker symbol
Hello,
In my 457(b) they replaced many of our Vanguard funds with State Street funds. For example, I used to own Vanguard Institutional Index (VIIIX) and they transferred all of those assets to State Street's US Large Company Stock Index. For the life of me I can't find a ticker symbol for this new fund anywhere. When I google the fund name, it shows SVSPX, which closed at $201.93 per share yesterday. The fund I own is $9.80 per share so I know it's not SVSPX. Is anyone familiar with this fund or familiar with how I could find the ticker symbol? Here is a link to the fund overview. https://www.ohio457.org/assets/funds-pr ... 0Index.pdf
Thanks in advance!

Re: QQQ mutual fund equivalent?
Hi all, Currently have my monthly DCA split 1/3 each between VTSAX, SPY, QQQ but I'm looking to back the QQQ off to more like 1/4. Given the amounts I'm buying, that would mean buying less than a full share of QQQ, which I can't do on Vanguard. Is there a mutual fund option/equivalent I could buy in dollar amount/fractional share instead? Thanks! From ChatGPT: "... There is no mutual fund with the exact same holdings as QQQ, but there are several mutual funds that track similar indices, such as the NASDAQ-100 Index, and offer similar exposure to the technology sector. Some examples of mutual funds that offer similar exposure to QQQ include the Vanguard Information Technology Index Fund and the T. Rowe Price Equity Income Fund."

We have one and it has become our go to cooking appliance. I especially love the grill. Chicken tenderloins sprayed with avacado oil and seasoned, turn out perfect and are done in 7 minutes on high grill setting. Steak turns out really good as well. It does need to preheat first and that can take longer than expected. The kids use it for things like pizza rolls, chicken tenders, fries etc. I've recently been making hot subs in it and they are great. Vegetables can turn out okay.

Seeing as MM accounts including SPRXX has yielded .01% the majority of years 2012-2022, with increases in 2017-2019 and 2022, my question is, is this a strategy worth doing during times of low yield? Does anyone plan on moving their everyday expenses out of Fidelity if/when yield drops back down?
I like the idea of doing this but trying to think long term if it would be worth it for me to switch everything over then back again if someone better comes up down the road if yields drop.

What are the lessons that BHs have learned from this crash? I think the markets are demonstrating why an individual investor continues to need an asset allocation they can stick to regardless of current market conditions. And how do you know what asset allocation you can stick with? Even an early investor could make a spreadsheet that includes hypothetical future retirement account balances. Then run some scenarios with 90/10, 75/25, 60/40 etc., and see what happens to the balance when there is a drop of 10%, 20%, 50% etc. in stocks and/or bonds. One could first try and visualize what it would feel like to have, say $750,000. Then try and visualize how you would feel if that balance drops to $600k, $400k, $250k etc. Would also need to try ...

I am trying to line up my Citi card billing cycle to begin on the first day of the month and end approx on the last day. On the Citi card website it only gives me the option to change my due date, which will in turn change my billing cycle. The problem is I don't know what due date to choose in order to align the billing cycle with approximately the first and last of the month. Does anyone have their billing cycle start on the 1st? If so what is your due date?
Thank you!

Currently considering a FIdelity 401K with new employer. No employer match until January 2022 (hopefully.) Expense ration is .12 and also has a recordkeeping fee of 0.14% of assets annually. Any feedback you can provide on this? Higher than you would pay in an IRA, but probably still better than taxable. I've got a call with the IRA dude on Friday, so that may be an option as well. Ultimately I am asking this question because I don't plan on being with this employer for long, and wonder if it's worth having another 401K account at the moment. If you're not planning on being with your employer for long then you could possibly hold off. Explore the IRA route on your own if you feel comfortable doing that, I would avoid an "IRA dude".

Didn't track net worth before 2014, was paying extra on mortgage, not investing significantly. Found Bogleheads in 2015(?), was a late starter to saving/investing.

Re: I sold off all my (modest) cryto holdings this morning
I thought about selling my 0.69415 ethereum when it hit $2800 yesterday but I held off. Glad I did as it's now at $3146. Bought in when it was $1075. So my $750 investment is now worth $2181. I guess I'll hold in case it moons (has it already?), but I have no specific exit point. Just hoping for something ridiculous like ethereum at $25,000. We'll see.

Re: Updated Honda Civic model (11th Generation)
I like the Apple watch comparison. It also reminds me of the way IPhones used to have flat edges, then gradually went to rounded edges, now back to flat. The Civic was boring in first half of 2010's, then got sexy, now back to boring. People just like any sort of change when it comes to designs.

Re: Updated Honda Civic model (11th Generation)
Interesting design. Three words came to mind when I watched the video. Retro, sophisticated, boring. Not boring in a bad way necessarily, it seems like they simplified the design intentionally. Someone mentioned it resembles an older Accord and I agree with that. Looks like they borrowed some of the more sophisticated elements from the Accord. And I noticed a few features that remind me of an older car, the steering wheel for instance.

Re: Approved for Personal Loan in 15 minutes
Lightstream. $50k loan in an hour with about a 1 minute form filled out. I think it was 2.69%. Would have been in my account that afternoon if I had taken it. Didn't need the money in the end and it expired in 30 days. I agree, it's crazy. Or scary - they already know everything they need to know about you. I think you fill this stuff out so they know it's really you. You got a $50,000 loan at 2.69% interest?! Wow - how did you get such a low interest rate? They advertise that as being pretty close to the lowest rate (2.49%) on their website https://www.lightstream.com/ ...incidentally, after playing with their quote tool, not supplying any info or talking anyone, I can only get rates listed that low (potentially) quoted for an (unsecured)...

Re: Cfiresim has been revised and is super easy to use. (It's based on Firecalc)
How do I account for a spouse who will be retiring in a different year than me, since there is only one set of inputs for retirement years? Do I need to run two separate simulations? Thanks! I would personally do it this way: - Combine all investments into a single "Starting Portfolio" number and allocation percentages - Combine all of your baseline spending into a single "Starting Annual Spending" - Your "Retirement Start Year" is just when the simulation starts subtracting your spending from the portfolio. I would set this for whichever of you retires first - Then add "Income/Savings" adjustments down below to simulate your pre-retirement contributions. You can have one amount and time period for y...
