Re: Anyone experience problems with TSP RMDs in 2022?

FYI. Finally, Jerry's missing RMD check arrived in the mail yesterday. Only 6 weeks plus a few days, 8 telephone conversations with TSP representatives and hours on the telephone since the week the check was expected to arrive. Now I wonder if the IRS will be looking for their 50% penalty? There is hope!

Re: Anyone experience problems with TSP RMDs in 2022?

If anyone is still interested, we called TSP again about Jerry's missing RMD catch-up check . Albert (TSP rep #8) said the missing RMD check issue was just elevated to a supervisor TODAY (1Feb)! Latest update says the CHECK (yes, check this time not ACH as previous TSP rep said) would take 3 days before check was approved and issued, then another 10 days before the check would arrive at address on record. This issue couldn't get elevated to a supervisor by one of the previous 7 TSP reps we spoke with since December? What about the last rep that said the check was reissued on 18 January? I'm not certain I believe what this rep said today. TSP rep also said there was a programming error which caused the incorrect amount of withholding from Je...

Re: First Time TSP Withdrawal, question

DH has been taking RMDs for several years. This month (Jan 2023), he received his monthly disbursement with only 5% withheld for Federal taxes. He has requested his monthly installment, based on life expectancy table to withhold at a single rate with zero allowances and an additional amount of $400. They withheld $110 for federal tax for January. BTW, he is still waiting for the RMD end of year catch-up "check" that was supposed to be sent before end of the year to arrive (now more than a month late). I don't expect to see it for awhile with our unresolved current debt ceiling problem (although the last TSP rep (#6) said it would be sent electronically instead of a check when the debt problem is resolved). I have started th...

Re: Anyone experience problems with TSP RMDs in 2022?

An update. Talked with another TSP representative (#4) today. After the TSP rep investigated he determined the check had NEVER been issued despite the fact we received the notification the check was in the mail. Today he submitted the paperwork to issue a replacement check. (Issue a replacement check for one that was never issued?). The TSP rep said before issuing a new check there would be an investigation (about a week) why the check was never issued, once complete, the check would be sent via USPS (another 3-5 days). This has not given us confidence in the new TSP. Debby

Re: Anyone experience problems with TSP RMDs in 2022?

Husband got the snail mail notice that a check would be sent to him within a week for the amount he did not receive to complete his total RMD withdrawal for the year. Talked to two representatives, one last week that said check would be here Friday. No such luck. Called Monday and a new representative said it should be here Tuesday at the latest. Mail has not been delivered today (Tuesday). Anyone want to wager a bet that the check is in the mail? In addition, the letter indicated they withheld 10% from the distribution. We have had 25% withheld for the previous years he has been receiving RMDs, and always deposited to our checking account. What a poorly designed system has been thrust upon TSP participants. Seriously considering mov...
