Re: Life ins question

It’s not an inheritance guarantee if you outlive the 20 year term; then you’ve just spent the money for insurance you didn’t end up needing and it’s gone.

Re: Life ins question

How old are your kids? At age 65, do you really need life insurance at all? You could cash out the Survivor policy (sounds like Survivor Universal Life), invest it in Total Stock Index and if it doubles every 10 years, you’d have over $400k @85. And you don’t both have to die to get the money.

The Euribor is at a historic 20 year low, so unless you only intend to hold this loan for a short while, it seems like a great time to lock in a long-term low rate to me.

I tend to lean towards the thinking of split inheritance by children and not grand children. The children can then handle how much to give to their kids directly. Since you are not really paying off the car with $1000, you may want to look at your loan agreement to see if paying extra above the regular payment amount actually benefits you or it just is a pre-payment of a future payment due. I’d also make sure you have some amount of an emergency fund in place...

You are not likely to be successful in offering a below asking price on a house that just came into the market one day ago. You can either put in a full price offer and see if it gets accepted or wait for 30-60 days and make a below asking price offer if the house is still available.
