Re: mixing time & materials with flat rate for home repair
The concern both masons had with giving a flat rate for the repair is that they'll pull out the 3 bricks and below it will be a wrecked mess. Or the next bricks over will fall apart.

mixing time & materials with flat rate for home repair
I am hiring a mason to build a retaining wall and fix some brick steps. The mason wants to charge flat rate for building the new wall but time and materials (T&M) for the brick repair. How do I prevent problems with this mix of billing? When I previously mixed paying a (different) mason flat rat...

Re: How to choose Fabric Sofas?
Regarding Crate & Barrel, I've bought a few things from them and the quality is mixed - some furniture has been spectacular and some only so-so. However, their customer service has always been great. When I've had problems with furniture I received from them, they've always done their best to ma...

I guess I don't know where to start investing because I don't know what his ultimate expense will be, and I can't see how I'...

Re: investing for newborn child
We've maxed out Roth IRA and 401k contributions. My university doesn't offer 403b. I don't make enough salary for the 457 plan. We have life insurance for both wife and I payable to each other. We just redid our will before my wife was pregnant and didn't name a potential guardian, although we did l...

investing for newborn child
My wife and I just had a son born this past year. Is there any benefit in starting to save money specifically for him, versus saving money in my current investments that I could give to him later? Our state (MA) offers no tax advantages for 529s or Coverdell ESAs. Additionally, we plan to send our s...
