Re: Uninsured/underinsured insurance?

I was hit by an uninsured driver about two weeks ago. Filing under my UI policy made my deductible $250 instead of $1000 and it does not count against my policy.

Re: Thinking of moving to Texas, Iowa, Idaho, or North Carolina

I live in Houston. I moved here for work without knowing much about it, and for the most part, I absolutely hate it here. The local economy is good, the food is awesome, and there is lots of diversity, which I like, but the traffic is a nightmare and the weather and mosquitos are so bad that I am un...

Hit by uninsured motorist - what next?

I was broadsided by an unlicensed, uninsured driver who tried to make a left hand turn across a busy street. I saw him at the last second and was able to steer to avoid a head on situation, but he did a ton of damage to the entire passenger side of my 6 week old car. I got a police report and have s...

Re: Rolling vested pension into IRA

What is the monthly (or annual) payout that you are giving up by taking the lump sum? When would it start? What is the survivor benefit? Need more info! Giving up a guaranteed pension (esp one that is COLA'd) for a lump sum can be a very, very bad deal in many cases. I am not 100% sure how to calcu...

Rolling vested pension into IRA

I recently left a company that had a pension. The vested amount is approximately $21,000. The plan offers a few options for accessing the money, including cashing it out, which would be subject to tax plus 10% penalty because I am under 59.5, and rolling it to a traditional or Roth IRA. It does stat...

How do you track your medical expenses for future HSA withdrawals?

I have a HDHP with an HSA for the first time this year and am on track to max it out. I've already had a few thousand OOP in medical expenses this year but have been able to cash flow them up to this point. My plan is to continue to cash flow OOP costs and let the money in the HSA grow. I am not sur...

Re: Subaru infotainment issues -can people chime in?

Can anyone who ownes a outback from 2017-2018 models please say if they DONT have issues as well as if they do. I want to know if its just dashed expectations or a real issue. For clarity, the 2017 Outback (and Legacy) head unit is different than the one introduced in model year 2018; I have a 2017...

I doubt they will buy the vehicle back because the entertainment system is not working properly. It's not just that the "entertainment system is not working properly." I can't use my backup camera or GPS, and various other electrical issues included in my post, and some that aren't. I have had it i...

I should add, the speed limit issue has only happened when the head unit is also frozen. If it were happening when the head u...

Did I make a mistake changing the funds in my portfolio?

Hi all. I have had my rollover and Roth IRAs invested in Vanguard Target Retirement 2060 (VTTSX) for several years. I recently moved 100% of these two accounts (approximately $245k) to a three fund portfolio to take advantage of the lower expense ratios since there was enough in each to qualify for ...

I am in my 30s but last summer I had surgery on both knees, which made getting in and out of my Accord a challenge. The Outback has proven to be the perfect height for me to get in and out easily without aggravating my knees, which are still in the healing process.

I have had my 2018 Outback for almost two months and I absolutely love it. It took me three years to finally pull the trigger and I'm glad I did. I haven't taken it on any long trips yet, but I've done approximately 2 hour stretches with no issues (and I have back issues in general).

Re: Sunscreen for men in office environment

Elta MD makes a great line of sunscreens that a lot of dermatologists recommend. There is a bit of shine to it but I think that is inevitable with a high quality sunscreen. It's a good kind of shine though, makes the skin look healthy rather that greasy. They make a tinted version if your skin is d...

I am considering switching from my AT&T post paid contract to a GoPhone plan. Currently, I pay approximately $110/month for unlimited everything, including data (grandfathered plan). I drive a 2010 Accord with 111k miles on it that I bought new in 2009. It misfired on the way home from work and I had to have it towed to the deal...

Re: Repair old car or buy new? A car illiterate needs some help

Between the 90k maintenance, two new tires, and a few repairs, I spent approx $2500+ in December and January on my paid-off 2010 Accord. No it wasn't fun, but it's a heck of a lot cheaper than car payment and that thing is just getting broken in.

I also recommend taking a beginner course or a few classes with an experienced instructor to learn some of the basics before starting on your own. For home, I like DVDs from Travis Eliot (including this one http://www.theultimateyogi.com/short-and-sweet/).
