Read reviews of independent diminished value appraisers. Unfortunately, most of them show bad faith, dishonesty, etc. We were fortunate to find an appraiser from Fort Pierce, FL that works in all states. If I were in your situation the first step would be to contact the NC Insurance Department to determine who is liable for the diminished value. It's a fact that the car has diminished value but their method for determining the amount may be faulty.

Definitely spend the money to have an ASE technician scope the car, put it on a lift, pull the wheels, etc.

It appears that your vehicle also had structural damages (judging by the amount of the repair) so I can tell you from experience that a brand-new car that had structural repairs done will lose from 25% - 50% of its value when you go to sell or trade it.
