Re: On-call on weekends ?
That call system sounds painful. I’m in medicine and our call system varies dramatically based upon the type of job you have. If you are part of a private practice group, generally your group bills the hospital a flat rate (say $1000 weekend) to be available to answer calls/questions and then you ma...

Re: Cyclists...where are you getting your masks?
Just wanted to say, if you’ve never worn a mask while exercising, I might give it a try. I have to wear one in my gym (along with the doors being open, basically no AC, and stay 6 ft apart) and I have found that it makes me feel like I am exercising at altitude which in general makes me feel better...

Re: Refinance Mega Thread
With the possible Chase offer for rate modification on existing mortgages, has anyone or know of luck in directly calling and asking them for it? As suggested here I did ask for the formal payoff quote to be mailed on Friday and did not see a FedEx pop on my front door yesterday :happy Thinking whe...

Re: Refinance Mega Thread
Another data point for the unsolicited mortgage rate reduction offer from Chase that some people have received. After reading the posts earlier in this thread about Chase sending out unsolicited rate reduction offers, I decided to see if I could get targeted for it while actually moving forward with...

Re: Have you been personally affected by supply chain problems?
Yes. Our surgery center can't get masks because all these fools are buying them up. They're not even the right type of masks that will protect people from getting the virus; the ones we use are the flimsy ones that provide no air seal whatsoever. If people are buying the wrong masks, how is that af...

Re: $1 million house--- sanity check
-Monthly take home is around 21K after maxing 401Ks. All left over $ goes toward student loans and Index funds. Just curious how your take home is 21k month. Are you self employed and purchase your own benefits? We too live in NorCal, salary is higher than yours and we max out all our retirement ac...

Re: New(ish) attending physicians in the Bay Area: Housing
What employers aside from Stanford and Kaiser in the Bay Area are offering these types of loans for physicians? I know kaiser is the $175k, but what about the larger loans?

Re: Can I afford this house?
Downer here as well. My wife and I missed the gravy train when we moved to SF in 2013 by not buying. We make more and are in a secure profession (medicine), and we are currently looking at housing with prices at a max of $1.6-1.7. This is making us incredibly nervous which is why we we haven't bit t...

Re: leaving early from work
Your employer can fire you for anything they want...but if your boss fired you for simply asking then is that the kind of employer you really want? It all really depends on the relationship you have with your boss, and I think only you can determine that. The two options my wife and I chose between ...

Re: Another rent versus buy - moving from MCOL to VHCOL
Thanks for all of the replies. We actually lived in SF during residency with both kids so we are very familiar with the city. We want to live inside the city for several reasons (walking/biking to work, walking for errands, friends, restaurants, parks, etc...). We are dreading the lottery system for...

Another rent versus buy - moving from MCOL to VHCOL
Relocating from a MCOL area to VHCOL (Bay area) and I am interested in obtaining everyone's honest perspective on rent versus buy. I have used the various calculators and I am still struggling on what to do. Age: 33 (me), 34 (spouse) Income: $250k (me), $190k (spouse) - my salary will rise to ~$310k...

Paying my parents a salary not to touch their nest egg
I was wondering if anyone could provide me with some guidance regarding a strategy I was thinking of employing with my parents. My wife and I are young, 30, with a high combined income (~$375k/year) but with considerable educational debt (but no other debt - no mortgage b/c we rent) that we are aggr...
