Hopefully the first two $10 charges were just authorizations that won't be settled.
Happy to report that the first two $10 charges for the failed freeze attempts have now disappeared from my credit card.

Re: Can't freeze credit at Experian?

Same thing happened to me. I immediately tried again and got the same error message, no verification questions. Tried one last time, maybe 30 min had passed since 1st attempt, and it gave me a new set of verification questions and finally processed the request to freeze. Thank you for reporting thi...

Re: What to do with 5M?

Income wise you are probably borderline making muni bonds worthwhile anyway given your likely income going forward. You would have to put your exact estimates for things like qualified divs and ordinary income but I am guessing your OI is in the 15% bracket. The savings from getting some dividends/...

Re: What to do with 5M?

-do you consider your cd's to be cash or fixed? -does your 5% cash include your emergency fund or is that not even counted here? I'm considering CDs to be fixed. And the 5% cash is my emergency fund, yes. Although easy to liquidate CDs if needed (minus losing some interest on the withdrawn amount).

Curious, why not at least 80% in 30 year TIPS? Are your goals to increase wealth or preserve capital? Primary goal is to preserve capital against inflation. TIPS are on the table as far as my investment strategy, but to be honest I still need to do a lot more research and learning about the fixed i...

Re: What to do with 5M?

We are about to sell our company, but for a much smaller figure. Did you find any good post discussing tax tips for windfall? Or there is no other better solution than putting it all into vanguard index funds? Thanks! So the big thing I've learned is that the best (and often only) time to optimize ...

If you don't live in one of the tech hot beds, you may want to consider paying it forward with a small slice of your winnings. Meaning, investing is an entrepreneur(s) in a space you are very familiar. You not only have a potential to make a good, high-risk return, but opportunity to grow your comm...

Re: What to do with 5M?

Hey OP, Congrats! Have you considered buying any I-bonds? You could buy up to $15,000 in I-bonds annually ($10,000 limit with an additional $5,000 through tax refund; if you're married then you each could buy that amount). It would be a drop in the bucket for you but could be built up over time and...

100k in individual equities leftover from advisor - holding until I can sell portions for zero cap gains and buy VTSAX If I understand this correctly, you are waiting for these investments to lose money in order to sell them. Another question - Curious why you don't have any tax-exempt bonds (i.e. munis) and have VBTLX instead? So I bought VBTLX right after I discovered Bogleheads and wanted to immediately get into Vanguard and set up a Bogleheads-style portfolio right away. After further reflection and planning, I deci...

So is your desired AA = 50(Bonds):45(Stocks):5(cash)? Yes that's correct. Originally I had picked a target for myself of 60/40 stocks/bonds, based roughly on the "age in bonds" rule. However, after further reflection I decided to skew a lot more conservative. I received an excellent piece...

Originally, the ...

How did you grow a $5M company without having the nerve to fire a financial manager? Unless he's your brother-in-law, I just don't get it. I had a business partner who handled most of the "business" part. As for my financial manager, she's just been really kind, spent a lot of time educat...

What to do with 5M?

Hello Bogleheads, I've recently sold my company and after the vesting period of 2 years ends, I will have received about $5M in post-tax cash. Right now I have about half of that. During the first year, I invested in a couple real-estate deals, and gave a big chunk to a highly-recommended financial ...
