On the Edmunds site, under "Appraise My Car", I answered questions about my car and was able to get an "Edmunds Appraisal Report" on one tab and a
Carmax offer on the other tab. The appraisal report was similar to what I got on kbb.com. The Carmax offer was more than I would have expected.

Re: Gas dryer - safe to tinker?
My Maytag gas dryer stopped heating. The solution was to replace the thermal fuse, $7, from Home Depot, ordered online. You can find a Youtube video showing how to do it. It was easy. I think the fuse blew due to excess heat from lack of ventilation in the laundry room. We have since opened the window a crack to allow air in to replace what's blowing out the dryer vent.
I also have replaced the door switch and most recently the belt when the drum wouldn't turn with a heavy load of towels. Both of these were easy jobs as well. The dryer is 13 years old.

Re: Electric mower for mulching
I have had a Greenworks 80v 21" self propelled lawnmower for one season. I bought it from Costco and they double the 4 year warranty on the batteries. I consider it an addition to my exercise equipment. It has two batteries, which is more than enough for the front and back lawns. We have almost half an acre, so figure half that is lawn. It takes about an hour and 15 minutes. I mulch until the leaves start falling and then I switch to using the catcher. There are too many leaves to mulch back into the lawn. I pour the mulched leaves in the catcher into yard bags, which are picked up on trash day. Compared to raking and packing leaves into yard bags, mulching into the catcher is much easier.

Re: RMD Tax Withholding
I have a fairly simple spreadsheet for estimating state and federal taxes based on tax tables, social security formulas, potential deductions, etc. Near the end of the year, I update it and determine if I need to take a QCD to avoid falling off a cliff, and then I take my RMD. I adjust the state and federal withholding rates on the RMD to withhold more than 90% of my taxes. One year I withheld 50% of the RMD as federal tax when I had higher than expected self employment income. So I don't bother with estimated tax payments.

These came installed on both the up and downstairs heaters when I bought our house. There is a graph provided that tells you what humidity to set it at given the outside temperature. As the outside temperature drops, you are supposed lower the humidity to prevent condensation on the inside of the windows. Since our house is fairly airtight, it turns out that humidity never falls below the recommended setting on the graph so these never get used in our home. Never.

Re: Winterizing irrigation system, DIY or pay someone?
I have been doing the DIY method for over 20 years and never had a problem the following spring:
1. Shut off main valve to irrigation system in the basement.
2. Put a bucket next to that valve underneath the side tap, open tap and let the water drain into the bucket.
3. Run a few cycles on the sprinkler timer.
4. Unplug sprinkler timer wall wart.
I start this process a week or so before the first hard freeze.

Our neighborhood got fiber in March, I signed up online where I scheduled a time for the install and eventually got $400 in gift cards. A salesman arrived about 15 minutes after the installer and I told him I didn't want to discuss any other products. He looked disappointed, but I didn't ask for him to come. I got 300 mbps for $55 per month and have had no billing problems. Apparently you can get more gift cards if you sign up online instead of calling, so I recommend doing it that way. You can stack a bunch of codes and see which work. Just today, Google fiber left a little sign at the end of our driveways saying "Thanks for your patience" "Over the next few weeks, Google Fiber crews will be constructing a brand new fiber op...

Does your mother have an IPad? I recently told my SIL to stop sending out checks and use her small town bank's app to pay bills online. They had a list of all her regular payees in the app already setup for electric payment, and all she had to do was enter the account number the first time and the amount to pay. We did this while on vacation together and she was pleased with how easy it was and how quickly the payee received payment. She now pays nearly all her bills with the app.

I only keep cards on which I can earn significant cash back and that have no annual fees. So fido 2% on everything, Target and Lowes 5% in store, Chase and Discover 5% on a different category each quarter, Amex cash blue 3% online shopping and groceries, Sam's Club 5% on gas and at Sam's Club 3% on dining. Wife has some and I have some and we put the other as an authorized user and pay the full balance each month. My electric utility charges no convenience fee for a CC, so that goes on fido.

I never had a problem with Zoom calls, streaming or internet browsing. Typical speeds were 150/50. I got the best reception in an upstairs bedroom and connected the gateway to an ethernet jack and replaced my router in the basement with a switch so I was still able to use ethernet in the rooms where I had installed jacks. The gateway had two ethernet ports. The wifi on the Nokia gateway was very strong, so I got strong signals throughout my home. In fact, I was able to turn down the power on both wifi bands to 25%. Ditto this. I got a one stage filter mainly to remove chlorine and whatever else the charcoal filter picks up. We needed a new kitchen faucet, so I got one with a sprayer that used one less hole freeing up one for the new spigot. Previously we were having 5 gallon bottles delivered and this was cheaper and the water tested about the same.OpenMinded1 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 26, 2023 10:10 amThat's what I did, and I was surprised to find out that our drinking water appears to be pretty safe. How to Keep Your Whirlpool Dishwasher Alive for the Complete Idiot
I have had plenty of problems with my now 4 year old Whirlpool dishwasher, all that I was able to fix myself. 1. Wheels fall off the upper rack and it sags. I used two 4" zip ties to hold them back on. They don't spin with the zip ties on, but the rack slides easy enough if you lift it a bit while sliding it back. I have had to do this for both front wheels. I got this tip from an Amazon review of the expensive replacement part for the rack. 2. The open lever falls off the door that hides the soap so that the door won't stay closed. You can pry off the door, reinstall the lever and then snap the door back on. I have had to do this maybe 50 times. It helps to put some silicone grease on the underside of the lever. You can buy the grease...

No. I would first make sure you have a EoB for the lab service, and if so call the insurance company and ask if the lab was in network, and if so ask why you don't at least get the in network discount. If the lab is not in network, then the PCP's office screwed up and sent it to the wrong lab. If you don't have a EoB for the lab service, then call the lab and give them your insurance information.
