The due dates for my estimated state tax are the same as for federal tax. I plan to pay my payment for the 4th quarter estimated state tax (due Jan 16) this month so that it can be deducted on my 2017 federal return. I will make a very generous estimate of my state taxes due.

Check any statements you get for new terms. These usually include an 800 number that you can call to reject the terms. Its a simple robocall menu. If you reject the terms, they will drive a stake through your account so it can never be resurrected under any circumstances

For a HSA, it only matters that your withdrawals for a year are less than or equal to your qualified expenses. You can make this happen without putting money back in to the HSA. If you get audited, the IRS would only look at your total qualified expenses and your total withdrawals.

My preferred method for closing a CC is to wait for a change in terms and then calling the 800 number to opt out. If you do this, the CC can never be resurrected -- its like driving a stake through a vampire.

We had this type of rate many years ago when we lived in California. We ran the dishwasher and clothes dryer during off peak hours. We has a gas water heater, so that wasn't an issue. Also we lived on the coast where homes didn't need air conditioning, so we made out like bandits. Thanks PG&E.
