Re: Rent Out or Sell My Condo...

I think its FOLO (Fear of Losing Out) rearing it's ugly head with me. My neighborhood is taking off and my place can appreciate a good amount. But not sure wait and see if worth losing the possibility of gains on 150-200K

Re: Rent Out or Sell My Condo...

Nobody really discussed much about depreciation and deducting expenses. Won't that make renting more attractive?

Re: Rent Out or Sell My Condo...

If it's a good investment, your going to be relying on appreciation, which you should probably have a compelling argument for. Something like this area is just starting to gentrify and the city overall is experiencing tremendous growth. Without that, and especially since you take your gains tax fre...

Re: Rent Out or Sell My Condo...

:confused Everyone thanks for your ideas. I'm still a bit unsure what to do, mostly due to the long term uncertainty. I just fear being priced out if I ever came back but selling makes a ton of sense. What would you do with the sales funds?

Rent Out or Sell My Condo...

Bogleheads I have seen a few Rent out vs Sell posts but I haven't seen too many with the numbers. I am moving for a new job. I may come back to the area where my Condo is after a few years, but not sure. What are your thoughts on renting out..using a property manager or selling and running? What wou...

Moving to SF Bay Area, Considering REITs for investments

Bogleheads, I am moving to the San Francisco Bay area for a job opportunity. I really like the Bay Area and want to live close to work which is the Palo Alto area. That said, I don't believe that I will be able to afford to purchase property here - I am on one income and moving to a very high cost o...

Invest in CD or not, need some perspectives please

I have a family member that has a small amount of retirement savings. They were a small business owner and didn't do much of any investing. Now that they are retired they are interested in placing a sum in a CD for a year or so. Basically they want some growth and no risk. Something better than a sa...

I'm not trying to time the market but I bought some ETFs (ITOT through Fidelity) about a for several months now and i'm not seeing any progress. It seems that the market is unstable that I should wait before making any further investments. I don't think Thoughts? Are any of you holding off expecting...

I have tried that. Tried telling her about the BH mindset towards finances. I guess i'm looking for stories, examples of how to deal with this challenging family ties. Any posts anyone can recommend for me to read? How do you influence someone to be more assertive about their financial life?

How to help family from over-giving to their financial ruin

Share tools/tips to help with tax planning 2016?

I just finished preparing my paperwork for taxes and it didn't take too long, maybe about 2-3 hours. I wanted to ask Bogleheads how do you manage your paperwork etc. for tax planning. Do you have an interesting way of saving receipts? Keeping track of expenses? A special itemizer? I would like to st...

Re: Dave Ramsey Lashes Out at His Financial Critics

When I go to Half Price Books and peruse the personal finance section I see lots of Kiyosaki/Ormann/Ramsey books. I rarely come across one of Bogle's books. Hilarious!! Since I started my boglehead journey, I try really hard to get books from the library instead of buying. In my community library a...

I'm curious also about this freefall today. I had planned to buy some ETFs today (ITOT and AGG) but seeing the declines I'm wondering if I should wait to see if things go lower. I'm not a fan of timing the market as I have learned thru this forum but would it be reckless for me to invest now?

Can I max out 401K contribution and expect company match ?

This post will show you how green I am to investment and retirement planning. I have been reading some older posts about whether or not to add Bonds to a new portfolio but i feel a bit confused with some of the discussions.
