I didn’t read the article. For me when I was young we don’t think it through so obviously you do the 401k. In retrospect, when I was young, I was in a lower tax bracket then I will probably be retired. For now I am probably in a higher tax bracket as compared to when I will be retired. So in retrospect, I think I would’ve been better off not funding the 401(k) at all, but putting the money in a brokerage. I think the difference is the money in the 401(k) is going to be taxed as income, whereas capital gains in the brokerage is going to be taxed at capital gains. Capital gains is nearly certain to be an advantage rate for the individual. "4.If you can save on your own and you’re young, don’t be afraid to bypass tax-deferred plans. Comm...

This place is $120 for a family of 4 sized carriage. You and your family are out on your own with just a map and a well trained horse who pretty much has the area memorized. Very rare opportunity for such a cool experience! No past experience with horses required. I also highly recommend a quick visit ( 1/2 hour or so )to the Carriage Museum on Mackinac Island. One thing I will say is that I’ve spent the last eight months going through cancer treatment. It came on suddenly, was completely unexpected, and the long term prognosis is still an unknown. I am really grateful that I did many of the things I “always wanted to do” before this happened. So my suggestion is if you have something you really want to do, make the time and do it sooner rather than later, even if you don’t retire.

2023 Estimated Tax Worksheet question.

Line 13 of the 2023 Estimated Tax Worksheet says:

13.Income tax withheld and estimated to be withheld during current year (including income tax withholding on pensions, annuities, certain deferred income, etc.)

Is the answer to this found on line 25d of my current 2022 10-40 return? I believe my tax withheld for 2023 will be similar to my 2022 return.

25 Federal income tax withheld from:
a Forms W-2
b forms 1099
c other forms
d add lines 25a through 25c................ 25d

I was surprised that TurboTax was not generating estimated vouchers for 2023 and I wanted to double check if it was correct in doing so.

To make clear, this relates to a mutual fund account 1099 and a brokerage account 1099 which both hold mutual funds. I calculated the USGO for each fund on the mutual fund account tax statement. For the brokerage account I used the information provided, in the supplement sheet, to calculate the amount of USGO for each fund held. I totaled the amounts and used the total amount to answer the adjustment question in TT. Either way, mutual or brokerage account, I had to calculate the USGO amount of dividends. Oops spoke to soon. The next screen asks "which state are the exempt interest -dividends from?"

First box will probably be Ohio? What amount would go in this box? 2.81% was the info provided in the supplemental page.

Then do I choose more than 1state if so, what amount would that be?

Thanks again.

Do I tick this box? If so, Vanguard's supplemental sheet lists my state, Ohio as 2.81%. Would I multiply this percentage times the amount in box 12 of the 1099-div to calculate the answer to the next screen which says U. S. Government interest?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.
No, Ohio is not the US government
Thanks for the quick and helpful answer!!!

TurboTax? about entering Vanguard Intermediate Term Tax Exempt fund VWIUX

Hello all. So I entered the information provided by the 1099-DIV in box 12 into the appropriate box in TurboTax. The next screen asks if "a portion of these dividends is U. S. Government interest."
