Re: College laptop for fall 2018 freshman

Unfortunate to see a lot of Apple ignorance here. Are they the absolute best? No, but some of the "claims" made in this thread are just silly. That being said, first I would check with the department to see if they have recommendations. If not, I would get a MacBook Pro. Remember, you can run MacOS ...

Re: What is your favorite reasonably priced bourbon?

Surprised by all the love for Makers 46. That and Johnnie Walker Double Black both taste to me like they took their standard bourbon (or scotch), and stuck it in a blender with a lump of charcoal. That's part of the appeal for me. The peat smoke in Johnnie Walker Double Black from Islay Scotch blen...

Amazon.com offers a 5% discount for any purchase made with Bitcoin.[/i]
This is 100% patently false. The amount of gross misinformation surrounding Bitcoin and other cryptos is really disturbing.

Re: What is the best thing to use to hang pictures?

I strongly endorse Hercules hooks. I have every single item on my wall hung with these and have never had a single item fall or any trouble at all. Super simple to use and extremely strong.

Re: Mint - Issues with showing my account details

I was a Mint user for three years, now I wouldn't use it if you paid me. Terrible glitches, inability to connect to or refresh accounts properly. Duplication mistakes that permanently throw off graphs and reports. It's just a complete and utter mess. I do not have a single good thing to say about th...

Re: Pro and cons of the Prime offer by Amazon.......

Prime is essential in my household. We make up the cost in delivery savings in the first three months alone. The movies and music on top of it is just icing.

Re: When people put all their eggs in the wrong basket

This post personifies the attitude over there. It was made on Sept 9. Eerily prescient. http://forum.thecontrarianinvestor.com/index.php?threads/gt-advanced-technologies-inc-gtat.69/page-320#post-20215 Not really. Investing in index funds would be a dangerous game for me: If I put all of my money in...

Re: When people put all their eggs in the wrong basket

The saddest part to me of the whole discussion on that forum is not the meltdown after the bankruptcy, but the posts before, even way before. If you go back and read the posts on that board just prior to the Apple announcement of 9/9, you can see that a lot of folks on that board were completely del...

Re: Seeking wisdom and guidance

The advice you've gotten so far is very good, but I don't think it would do any harm to put a percent or so into blackface Fenders. Hah, it took me a minute, but I think I got it :) I am actually a Les Paul man myself, on the electric side and a Martin fan on the acoustic side. I have 3 of the form...

Re: Seeking wisdom and guidance

Doesn't look bad at all... should be an easy transition for you. Your IRA is too splintered for my liking. Maybe the same TR fund you have in the 401k? Can her IRA be transferred to Vanguard? As you know, you can have much lower ER target date funds there. Personally, I would say go all target date...

Looks like you are short on bonds versus your desired allocation (25% bonds). Ok, thank you. This is how I was looking at it: 9% - Vanguard Inflation-Protected Securities Fund Admiral Shares (VAIPX) 11.5% - Vanguard High-Yield Tax-Exempt Fund Admiral Shares (VWALX) 5% - Vanguard Limited-Term Tax-Ex...

Seeking wisdom and guidance

Hello to everyone here. I cannot tell you how jazzed I am to be here and to learn from you wonderful folks! I recently finished the book "Boglehead's Guide to Investing (2nd ed.)" and I wanted to offer my thanks to Mr. Larimore, Mr. Lindauer and Mr. LeBoeuf for a superb job. The book was easy to fol...
