I'm not interested in news, beyond what I get here. Everything I would care to read is in books, or makes it there soon enough. Being good enough to get published is a small filter that at least keeps out (some of) the worst stuff.

Re: How much of a dip do you want before you TLH?
With index funds you may not know the net asset value at the end of the day, so you need to find an analogous ETF or index and watch that towards the close of the market; if it looks like it is going to end down with only a few minutes to go, put in the order(s) to TLH. In my experience, you want at least half a percent of margin for error in order to make sure you're definitely going to have a loss recorded (eg. you wouldn't try to harvest a 0.15% loss; it is too easy for things to blip and suddenly it's a 0.05% loss or not a loss at all). Additionally, I arbitrarily decided to not bother with this unless it was going to be in the ballpark of a thousand bucks of loss; I wouldn't both if it were just a hundred bucks. Laziness on my part.

I've been refining my estimate for about 5 years now. At first it was very "back of the napkin" and "ballpark-ish". Over time, I've gotten more detailed, tracking current expenses in a spreadsheet. Even with accurate record-keeping though, there's still guesswork. You never know what's going to happen and I could be off by as much as a factor of two (or more?). For me that just means I should save as much as I can and be ready to adjust as I go.

Is the EMH "true"? Maybe, maybe not. But in terms of making investment decisions, the most rational thing to do is behave as if it were true.
Or to put it another way, I personally do not think it is technically "true", but I do believe that it is beneficial to consider it as up it were true.

Most here have been there/done that. Do you really thing that -5% = "choppy waters?" I would call "choppy waters" at about 20% and rough sailing at over 40%. :sharebeer Most? No way. You could probably figure that out by looking at the increasing account creation rate over time, most of which come from new Bogleheads, and many of those young/new investors. 5% is definitely "choppy", and forum activity is up (I'd say), especially on threads like this one. 20% is "rough waters", 50% is looking-like-sinking, and 90% i...
