Biggest overlooked issue with ETFs performance calculation is the dividend re-investment drag.
Vanguard publishes on their website that ETF dividends are re-invested on the Ex-dividend date, and that's most likely what is being used for performance calculations. In reality, Vanguard invests dividends when they become payable a few days later:

That part I understand, but why does Vanguard's ETF website show that dividends were re-invested at price $236.04 (12/21/2023), when in reality the re-investment price was $238.07 (12/27/2023)?JoeNJ28 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 12, 2024 6:54 pm An ETF is not a mutual fund it is not a journal entry to reinvest the dividend. Vanguard - Misleading Dividend Reinvestment Price & Date
Both Vanguard links (see below) show a "VTI" dividend re-investment price of $236.04 made on 12/21/2023.
In reality, Vanguard re-invested the dividends for "VTI" at $238.07 on 12/27/2023.
Where does Vanguard get that dividend re-investment price from, if they don't even offer it on their own platform for ETFs that they issue?

scroll to "Yield & Distribution"
https://advisors.vanguard.com/tax-cente ... tributions
search for "Total Stock Market", then "VTI".

According to Webull's FAQ, with the new omnibus accounts, cash accounts and margin accounts are still maintained by APEX, only the cash portion is being held by webull.
So not sure why moving from cash account to margin enabled Apex lot status. They make it sound as if it doesn't matter:
"In Webull’s case, we will now maintain custody of your cash while Apex Clearing will continue to provide custody of your equities and options. "

Are you transferring from those firms, and is this for taxable or retirement? Are you adding to an already large portfolio at Schwab or how did you get the no minimum holding offer?

Wells Fargo WellsTrade: Has anybody figured out a way to get fractional mutual fund shares out (all that's left is 0.xx shares), without paying their enormous fees or doing a full account transfer? Once you transfer the full shares can't you just sell the fraction and transfer the cash via ACH? Does WFT allow to buy fractional shares, so that you end up with a whole number of shares? Trying to avoid the $35 transaction fee. Perhaps call and ask a broker to sell or it may just work itself out. So far no luck, they also sent an email that I was upgraded to trading fractional shares a few weeks after my account only had fractional shares left. They had no issue transferring in fractional shares, but somehow can only transfer out whole lots.

Re: The Final, Definitive Thread on Brokerage Transfer Bonuses
Schwab had previously agreed to match bonus offers from other brokerages. Tasty Trade has a $3,000 bonus offer for transferring in $250,000, and the money must remain with them for one year. Schwab then told me that they are not willing to match Tasty Trade. I am debating taking the $250,000 from my Schwab taxable account to get the bonus from Tasty Trade. I took advantage of the tasty trade offer but I'm pretty agnostic about custodian so I have no burning desire to go to schwab if they aren't making good offers. Edit: Don't forget that tasty doesn't allow mutual fund purchases although you can transfer them their which wasn't a concern for me as I have all etfs. Re: Asset based / Asset depletion mortgage providers
$2 million in assets. Divide by 120 = $16,667. Multiply by 43% debt to income ratio, and you've got $7,167. That needs to cover mortgage payment, PMI (if applicable), homeowners insurance, property taxes, and all other debt. Assuming no other debt, homeowner's insurance of $400 a month, property taxes of $600 a month, and no PMI, that leaves $6,167 for a mortgage payment. At 3.5% interest, that's a a $1,373,000 mortgage, so with 20% down that's a $1.71M house. Were you able to find a lender that considers 100% of your portfolio's value, as opposed to 70%? If your assets are divided by 120 (10 years), wouldn't the mortgage also have to be for 10 years? Your $1,373,000 mortgage calculation suggests a 30 year mortgage. You'll most likely have...

I'm confused, not only will get a refund, but I thought that one could owe $1,000 without penalty.
Edit: This was caused by an issue by the tax software.

How does one transfer CITs without being out of the market? (Many (most?) 401k plans don't let you rollover even mutual funds to an IRA - the funds get liquidated first and only the cash is transferred. At least that was my experience.) It's usually possible to transfer without liquidating if 401k provider and IRA provider are the same. Some people also had success if the mutual fund issuer and receiving IRA provider are the same. I've made same day exchanges between two different mutual fund families in my 401k. That's usually a two day process, but it was done the same day. Sometimes 401k offerings change and they'll force people into other fund families. That exchange also happens simultaneously. That makes me believe that it should be ...

Your cost basis for Spec ID should still be intact at Schwab, as long as you don't make any additional trades (including dividend re-investments). If you transfer out to a different brokerage SpecID info should be transferred along with it.
Chase has the same problem, they show it as average, but when transferred out SpecID info is intact.

This would imply that loses are, at a minimum, retained within the tax year.

Re: Vanguard - Same Day Mutual Fund Exchange (cross-family)
My Fidelity 401k lets me exchange across families (Fidelity to Vanguard, and vice versa), all in one transaction, with prices taken on the same day. I even did the math manually to confirm. So I know it is possible, but not sure if it will work at Vanguard.alex_686 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 15, 2020 7:15 am In a exchange you specify the number of shares you are going to sell. As such you don’t know how much money will be flowing into your account, so you can’t put in a trade ticket with the dollar amount of the new fund that you are buying.
Fund families can handle that complexity by creating a but ticket after the NAV has been struck. i.e. After the market has closed.
Also, they let me select the exact dollar amount, as opposed to shares.

Re: Vanguard - Same Day Mutual Fund Exchange (cross-family)
That's always the case, even when selling vanguard mutual funds, but the question is whether one is able to exchange across families (same day mutual fund exchanges from Vanguard to Vanguard, or Fidelity to Fidelity is obviously possible).
