Re: Vanguard - Same Day Mutual Fund Exchange (cross-family)

In a exchange you specify the number of shares you are going to sell. As such you don’t know how much money will be flowing into your account, so you can’t put in a trade ticket with the dollar amount of the new fund that you are buying. Fund families can handle that complexity by creating a but ti...

I sold a couple of funds in the spring from my brokerage account. I am pretty sure the funds were not available same day since the sale occurs at the closing NAV of the fund being sold. I searched and found posts from 2016 about the inability to exchange Fidelity mutual funds into Vanguard mutual funds (at Vanguard) without being out of the market. Reading the REFID on the bonus payment, the string does not appear to be the dollar total. Is the amount the first ??? characters. The transaction type is "transfer", when you first transferred in. There are several lines, one is for the quantity, the other one is the value of the transfer.

That would indicate that accrued distributions are not part of a bond's NAV. In contrast, dividends that a stock mutual fund has accrued are part of the fund's NAV.
