Re: 4 days in Munich, Germany

Hi! In the city I would get a day pass for the subway/Ubahn and ride! I love the public transportation system in Munich and have used it extensively. You can use it to go to the Olympic complex which you will want to see as well as the English Garden for a beer if the weather is great. I would not h...

Re: Has anyone see an inheritance not go as planned? I would like to hear stories from others of what can go wrong.

I have personal experience with two inheritance problems recently. One was due to a poorly written will with language not conforming to state requirements and with paragraphs contradicting each other. It took two years and multiple hearings for judges to determine what the language meant and for tit...

Re: Where to stay in Naples, Italy and along Amalfi coast

I was just there in October. Stay in Sorrento. Those tight roads along with the insane traffic mean that you will not be able to cover the distance you think you will. I agree with the other posters that you will spend way too much time getting from point A to point B if you stay in Naples. I would ...

Re: house rentals in Norway?

Take a look at Novasol. We have used them many times in Italy, Denmark, Croatia, Slovenia....

They are a more formal version of Airbnb. We have never had a problem and largely found the the houses to be as advertised.

A similar service is Dansommer.

Re: Venice Suggestions

I just spent a couple of days in Venice in the fall. The largest tourist sites were mobbed, but here is what we really enjoyed: 1. water bus pass - We spent the 20 euros and used it non-stop. I feel that I really saw what a water-based city Venice was from the water. We ended up going to Burano whic...

Re: Invalid airline ticket, seeking reimbursement

Something similar happened to me on Expedia. I bought my tickets through Expedia but smaller Airline #2 refused to give me a boarding pass on their partner Airline #1 because the code in their system did not indicate that Airline #1 would pay them for the flight. Calling Expedia yielded nothing but ...

Re: Visiting the National Parks

I have a similar goal and have been pursuing it in a manner much like what you suggested - fly somewhere, rent a car, then seen as many as you can. By doing things this way - in manageable chunks - I find that we really get the feel of a region and thereby remember the parks individually. I have hea...

Re: Social Security Widow Benefit Question (urgent)

I am so sorry about your loss. My condolences to you and to your mom. I lost my dad recently, and I know what you are going through. The good news here is that SSA will sort it all out and make it all up to your mom once you sit down and talk to them. This will not happen within days but rather with...

Re: Handling cash in Vietnam

I was in Vietnam a couple of years ago, and I saw that depending on ATM's is a risky option. They are not always easy to find; and despite bank notifications, your card will be rejected most of the time. I would not go to Vietnam relying on any ATM card or credit card for cash. Things just do not wo...

Re: Anyone have a house with a pool?

We have a pool at our condo; and after seeing how expensive it is, there is NO WAY I would ever want one at home. It is a small pool (not unlike one for an individual home), and I figure it costs us about $4000 per year in variable expenses to operate for the 3 months we have it open in Ohio. You co...

Re: Fostering Change in HOA

I have served as the president of a small (75 unit) HOA. I agree with all previous posters - much pain and time is spent dealing with what should be non-issues. Two other issues to consider: 1. When (and not if) someone is foreclosed on, it is difficult if not impossible to secure past due HOA fees....

Re: Best Used Recreational Bicycles for New Riders

I would strongly suggest shopping for a specific bike shop as much as shopping for a bike. A friendly place eager to help you service your bike will help immensely. When my office moved, I decided to bike to work at least part time. I needed a new bike and went for the $400 type. On top of that I ha...
