Re: Tax Question (NJ state)
Hi Mark Thank you so much for your help! Luckily I did not file Federal tax for myself, so we can still file join return for the federal return. For NJ state return, I agree with your suggestion: we will do amended 1040X after my husband files his return as married filing separate. For 1040X, do we ...

Tax Question (NJ state)
Hi, I got into some trouble with our tax return. I have asked around, but have not received much help. Hopefully someone here had the same experience: By mistake, I filed my NJ state tax with a filing status "married filing separate". I do not owe tax and no refund. My husband has not file...

Re: Vanguard investors: be thankful for ETFs!*
Vanguard ETF gives us the option of reinvest capital gain or dividend, that is the option I choose for my VXUS. But what happens if the CG or dividend is not exactly the share price for reinvesting? I understand we cannot purchase partial share for ETFs. Sorry if this is a silly question, I am very ...

Oh I see. Thanks. I sold some FHLC. I also own VXUS in my Vanguard account, hopefully this one will have no sell charge, but I will hold VXUS for many years.

Re: To ETF or Not to ETF? That is the question.
I recently sold my ETF fund in my Fidelity IRA account, they charged a $7.95 fee! I was NOT aware of this fee. Does Vanguard charge a fee too when you sell ETF? If yes, how much is it? This is the first time I own ETF (in both Fidelity and Vanguard), so I am still learning.

Re: Capital Gain Tax on Muni Bond Funds
Hi grabiner, Sorry I am still not very clear on how the bond fund capital gain works. Assume a bond fund (not single bond) has a duration of 2 years, and I hold the fund for 5 years (no sell, no addition), do I still get capital gain when I sell or transfer the fund? I suppose the fund manager is co...

Re: Capital Gain Tax on Muni Bond Funds
Thank you Livesoft. I will keep this muni fund (no other better choice anyway), and start to read and learn about capital gain taxes. Hopefully I can "graduate" by April 15th, 2015.
Thank you all for your help.

Re: Capital Gain Tax on Muni Bond Funds
Hi baw703916 and Toons, Good morning and thanks for your quick reply! You information certainly helps me a lot. Actually I am not worried about how much tax I have to pay on the capital gain, but rather I hate to deal with capital gain for tax return (Schedule D). I know that sounds silly, please do...

Capital Gain Tax on Muni Bond Funds
Hi, Please forgive me if this question has already been asked and discussed (I am a new investor). I recently bought some short term muni fund from Vanguard (VWSUX). I thought I can use this fund to park some cash for later transferring to my checking account, or buy some stock mutual funds (I have ...

Re: Asset Allocation At or Near Retirement?
Hi Leif and Livesoft, Thank you so much for helping with my understanding on bond funds. And also to the OP - sorry didn't mean to highjack your post :), but my question is related to near retirement investing in bond funds, so that is why I decide to post my question in this discussion. I am embarr...

Re: Asset Allocation At or Near Retirement?
Hi everyone, I am very new to bond fund investing, so PLEASE forgive me if my question is silly or ignorant... Most people here seem to suggest that we should put more money to bond funds (about 50 - 70%) for very conservative investors (I am one of them). However, when I read the news allover, so m...
