Re: Drilling into stucco/cement siding
I have found masonry bits work better at slightly slower speeds so maybe try the lower speed gear if your drill has one. My standard drills though were almost worthless even with a masonry bit. Soon as I tried my first hole with a compact hammer drill, I understood what a difference I was missing. Hammer drill would be your small upgrade and good for the small anchors you're talking about. SDS hammer drill is next step up from there and might be overkill but if you have one then give it a go and be careful not to drill more than you need.

Re: amica slow to deal with other insurance company?
We've had Amica for years, including multiple claims, and highly recommend them. Payouts were very quick. Resolving claims though does often take time depending on documentation and complexity. The lack of police documents in the situation described might add delays. Our last accident took nearly a year to close out and that was with clear reports from the highway patrol in our favor. The large payout on the car was near instant but the remaining items on payout value negotiation, injuries, lost work, each took months and most of that was the carriers contacting me multiple times each week. I think we considered it closed about 10 months after the crash.

These would all be questions to ask the HR person at the district where she will be working. The pension formula is different from one district to the next and the eligibility rules, or whether they participate in all or some of the supplemental programs, will also be different from one district to the next. My wife is STRS and I'm PERS. Any neighboring county or city jobs I look at have significantly different pension formulas and rules even though they all have reciprocity with my current job and coverage.

If you watch a consistent source, say a particular channel or business, you could also share your concerns with them. I jokingly complained about the number and length of ads on a channel streaming animals that is run by friends of mine. He took it seriously though and went in right away to adjust his settings. Still ads there but fewer and shorter. The content creators do have some control over how they monitize their channel.

General consensus on these boards is that if you have a definite plan for the money a few years out then it should not really be in investments such as stocks or bonds. Just pick something simple such as savings account, no penalty CDs, or short duration Treasury bills. We might be in a similar situation soon with cash to hold for the next house which could be anywhere from six months to five years out. I'll likely have the cash in our Ally savings or short Treasury bills to earn something, even knowing inflation still eats at it.

I was on a 3a and was waiting for the 6a release to upgrade. My daughter broke the screen a month ago and I was just trying to last it out. 6a pricing I believe was announced at $450 but Google sent me a discount code unprompted which made the straight pixel 6 only $480. $30 different than what I was prepared to pay and I didn't have to wait for the 6a launch. Been great so far. I don't like the fingerprint reader in screen but otherwise it's been very nice. Larger than my old phone so I'm still getting used to holding it.

Kids in elementary school have gone fanatical for Crocs in our area. They are definitely the must have must wear item to wear daily. Competition and status with peers over what colors you have and which charms you buy to decorate the holes. It's crazy listening to them but reminds me of sports shoes when I was in school in the 80s and 90s.

Re: Federal Tax Rebate for electric cars. Arbitrage?
People posted about doing this a few years ago with a couple model of hybrid vehicles rather than all electric. I don't remember the exact figures but the general concept was by a Honda or Toyota specific model hybrid on promo that had tax credits say for $36,000, total out the door including taxes, take a $6,000 tax credit, drive the vehicle for 8 to 10 months and then used car places like CarMax were still offering to buy at around $32,000 because the demand for the car was so high. A couple people been posted stories, unverified of course, but sounded like they had done that multiple years in a row and floated the question about whether it would just continue? They essentially were making around a 1500 to $2,000 profit each yearly cycle ...

As others have commented on earlier, what is described here does not avoid taxes already due unless there are some other details not described. If the parents owned 20% then taxes are due already on those profits. Whether another property is purchased later or if they use money to issue another loan is a separate decision and does not change taxes on the already completed sale.

Alton Brown approach is my only way now. Try to dry age a few days covered with a clean dish towel each day. Season the day before with a good amount of salt. Let sit room temperature a few hours before roasting. Slow roast at low temperature until it hits about 125F. I would prefer it more rare but the rest of the family likes it more cooked so this is a compromise. Rest covered until we're close to eating. Blast at 500F for a few minutes when we're ready to eat.

If I'm in a hurry then preheat grill well and sear both sides a few minutes then rest on a plate and enjoy. I like it medium rare at most. If it's a thicker cut then I like reverse sear method of seasoning and then roasting in low oven around 250F till it's around 120-125F internal temp. Let sit till it's close to eating time then sear a minute on each side at whatever the hottest heat source around is that I can find.

Definitely rent a stand up deck sander for a weekend or might be cheaper to rent a full week. Prep will be your longest time requirement. Get the nails or screws below the surface level before sanding. Standing sander will take care of the deck in a couple hours depending on size. Roll or spray a stain. We went semi transparent medium brown toned a couple years ago and prefer the lighter natural look. I plan to power wash back to near bare wood then do clear or natural stain and seal

Also don't forget that most of the streaming services are monthly charges but are easy to turn on and off right in the app. I would never have been able to do that with my cable or satellite provider because it would have taken hours. We have a couple services we keep going for frequent use but most of them we only subscribe to perhaps one or two months during the year and the rest of the time it's cancelled and uninstalled.

Use mail order pharmacy for every prescription that you can. Definitely do not use mail order for anything that requires refrigeration or other special handling. Refrigerated items need to be picked up in person and immediately taken home for cold storage. We've been doing it this way for years where pills etc all come by mail but one injectable medication I take my drive to pick up in person. Maybe it's just me but I always assume any insurance policy is ACV. Full replacement cost is more of a specialty product. I've been with Amica for years and unfortunately had two total loss car accidents. They were very fair and quick on payout which is why I have continued recommending them. They definitely did not buy me a new car to replace my wrecks that were only a few years old, but they did pay approximate market value for the used vehicles and were very willing to increase their offers when I added pricing research of my own.

Re: Dryer vent cleaning DIY or Professional?
The issue is there are screws connecting the pieces. You aren’t supposed to do that. Can you access it to remove the screws and use foil tape to seal the connections? Otherwise this issue will keep happening. Exactly, too late now but anyone reading this, please never use screws to puncture your vent pipe connections. Each vent segment should slide into the next segment, then that overlap is secured with a circle clamp around the outside, and finally then wrap the outside seam with true metal duct tape (metal kind not to be confused with the grey plastic stuff). Repeat these steps for every segment of the length you are running. When you're done and take a look from either end, all you should see is a smooth bore with nothing poking or han...

Re: Marantz/Samsung/Harmony Home Theater Experts: Willing to Help?
It will take some time an experimentation but I believe the solution is already posted here. The source switching on the receiver is because of HDMI trying to control other devices and using that ARC function. That would work if all your video and sound source devices were hooked directly to the TV and then you wanted sound to flow back to the receiver on ARC when you wanted to use the receiver (instead say of a more quiet session using the TV speakers only). With you having source devices all hooked to the receiver first then the receiver to the TV, you don't want to use ARC. Turn all that off in the TV menus. You'll see settings for ARC, CEC, CEC+, or perhaps HDMI device control. Turn anything you find like that off in the TV menus, then ...

Re: Hardwood Floors
As others have said, the cost will be highly variable depending where you live. I've had a few flooring jobs done and the price has not varied all that much based on cheap or expensive materials. The install and finish is the largest share of the cost. Laminate or vinyl was the cheapest, then tile or engineered hardwood, then solid hardwood the highest. I'd plan for $20k minimum on your 2000 sq ft in my area, and then hope to maybe come in closer to $17k when you get multiple quotes from licensed contractors. Keep any savings close at hand for plumbing or electrical or subfloor things you might discover.

Handyman limit in california is $500 total. Above that requires a license. What you are describing sounds like a job closer to $5000 depending on how much tiling is being done and the quality of tub you are picking. I would lean towards a contractor and permits being required. Just from mentioning water areas and electrical work in a bathroom, I would want permits and a licensed contractor regardless just for peace of mind.

Agree with others. Just setup and pay through your regular banking bill pay. Include your name and account or loan number on the payment setup. If you're seeing multiple copies of the same company listed then they are likely setup for electronic payment which is even better. Pick the one that matches the address on your payment instructions. The payment likely will go electronically as a bundled ach with transaction details and get posted within a couple days by the recipient.

Initial offer to us from LenderFi was the best I had seen. Did not shop around more than maybe 4-5 lenders. Better immediately dropped their fees significantly to beat LenderFi by $100. I asked LenderFi if they could improve their offer and they essentially told me to go F myself without actually swearing, and that their processors would destroy the Better processors. I was extremely turned off by the alpha male attitude.
