OP, are you working, or retired? Still working. Semi-retiring in a year, age early 40’s. Savings rate is extremely high, but I want higher. The extra $6k is mathematically immaterial. It’s purely a psychological matter. if its so immaterial, i would just forget about it. you're wasting brain cells

He might go to graduate school. Also do you have any nieces or nephews? I would let the money sit for now rather than take the tax hit. Set it conservative so as not to run up future gains (which will be penalized), and you can use it as an emergency fund or part of your bond allocation. Additional...

Getting Rid of Comcast Modem

Hi - I want to get rid of my Comcast Rented Model ($11/month); however, all the modems that are DOCSIS 3.0 Comcast-approved on Amazon and the like don't have TELEPHONE compatibility. Does anyone know where to get a good Comcast-replacement Modem that has telephone (landline) compatibility? Thanks, A...

I'm in same boat as you for the most part. However, I have moved taxable funds into 529s. If the kids don't go to college (or get a scholarship or similar), the funds basically "act" as if they were in taxable accounts the whole time. You pay back your IL state tax deduction, withdraw funds without ...

$10k, $20k or even *gasp* $50k of debt after college isn't going to that big of a deal for an engineer especially if he has near perfect PSATs and takes school seriously.

Don't limit his options just because "its your money." Didn't you set aside this money for your son? for this purpose?

Vanguard "Personal Performance"; those with accounts >10 years

I think my Vanguard account is now slightly over 10 years old.

I believe I could always see the Personal Returns in table form since the inception of my account, but now that I am >10 years, I can only see the last 10 years.

Do other longtime account holders have the same issue?

My strategy is to pay off all debts, including mortgage debt, before investing in accounts that are not tax advantaged. You realize you are paying 3.5% on your mortgage, minus a tax deduction....call it 2.75%. Do you expect equities to return less than 2.75% over the life of your remaining mortgage...
