Machines do not reason, they are pre-programed to perform an action on a conditional, requested, situational, or nested-if process.
I fondly recall in 1986 from a session in SF how the floor traders and commodity brokers would be obsolete because the machines would trade more efficiently. Now, does anyone recall automated program trading and portfolio insurance from 1987? How did that work out?

Re: Homeowners Insurance Termination/Cancellation - Advice Sought
Let's focus on helping the OP find a path forward to getting new coverage.... I think OP's question has already been answered and that particular issue is over. The input I seek is the best way to approach the insurance company to have them reconsider the policy termination. As others opined would likely occur, USAA declined to reconsider the cancellation/non-renewal of OP's homeowner's policy. Many posters have advised OP to contact one or more insurance brokers and call around to other carriers to see whether he can obtain new coverage with his claims history. As mentioned by DoubleComma, OP may need to rely upon the California Fair Plan: https://www.cfpnet.com/ I'm sure if the OP has other questions about new coverage, Bogleheads will b...

Funny you ask...when I posted this my preference on the ICE as going on trips beyond our battery range. I hadn't super charged. Having recently super charged and found how quick, cheap and easy it is I now wouldn't say I prefer our ICE for that. Now I would only prefer the ICE if we needed the extra room, which is rare.ThankYouJack wrote: ↑Wed Jul 12, 2023 5:35 amWhen do you prefer your ICE vehicle?BogleBoogie wrote: ↑Wed Jul 12, 2023 12:37 am We love our Y, but also have a ICE vehicle for when that is preferred. This is a great point. You can't control the market, but you can control your agent. My agent is more like a financial advisor (I know that is a cringy word on here) than an actual salesman. He doesn't push anything, provides information and advocates.

I know of at least 2 neighbors who filed claims for food loss - and I think it was the only loss from the storm. I can't imagine doing that; our deductible is 1% of the home value. The deductible amount is more than I spend on groceries for our household in a year. I hope they don't regret their decision to file these small claims. It was brought to my attention that they are not accepting new CA customers which indicates to me that they are likely looking to drop policies of existing customers, unfortunately I made that very easy for them. It was suggested that I inquire if I could pay back the prior claim payouts which were small amounts, the answer to that is no they will not accept. The company I'm referencing is USAA, not Amica. I am concerned that USAA apparently also seems to be trying to leave the home insurance market in California. OP, where did you learn this info? The insurance policy I have boasts coverage for laptops damaged, I even paid extra for this. Homeowners Insurance Termination/Cancellation - Advice Sought
Hello fellow Bogleheads. I'm hoping that someone with experience personally or professionally in the insurance profession can provide some thoughts. My family has been with the same insurance company for the last 20+ years. We have everything through them (life insurance, car, umbrella, personal item, homeowners, earthquake). I received a letter from them yesterday that they are cancelling our homeowner and earthquake insurance. They cited the termination is due to a loss history as summarized in an enclosure. The enclosed sheet shows that we filed 4 separate claims over a little over 2 years. Two were for computer damage (laptop ruined kids spill drinks) and power failure (fridge contents ruined). We are located in California. In hindsight...

C) If answers to both (A) and (B) are yes, what is the problem?
D) If your answers are maybe, buy or rent a smaller house at the new location.

A few of my co-workers bought Ionic 5. So far they really like them. I can't give a first hand owner's account, but did ride in one once. My first impression was that it had more space, both passenger and cargo, than I had thought. The ride was quiet, smooth and it of course has the quick take off. I found the instrument panel to be nicer than the large touch screens, though this is personal preference. He paid $58k for his and it wasn't the top model. I would happily own and drive one of these. I hope this helps.

Hello all. My employer retirement plan offers two choices for the "safer" place to invest my non-equity money. The first is Western Asset Core Plus bond index fund (WACPX ticker). The second is a stable value fund that offers 2.75% fixed. If anyone has an understanding of bond funds and is willing to offer an opinion on this I would welcome it! cheers!

Plus when the markets do come back because of the type of low growth stocks in my portfolio, it might take a long time recovering.
