The link you provided clearly indicates that FTP is treated as other state taxes paid and is deductible on IA state return to avoid double taxation.

My state has a similar credit and taking the credit is totally in compliance with the law.

Yes you can as long as you don't use the same expense for both the credit and the business deduction.

Since no one can tell for sure how their taxes were actually filed, we can only hope that their accountant did the community property allocation worksheet because CA is the most well known community property state.

I suggest that Neuro stay out of their tax affairs.

It depends on the brokerage.

I know for a fact that Fidelity keeps up with such basis reduction even for non-covered stocks. However, I am not sure If Vanguard does any adjustment, covered or non-covered.

Please note that the OP has voice service and xfinity has very few gateways that are approved for voice.

There are basically three kinds of such gateways and the cost is north of $200.

FWIW! A Comcast gateway combines modem and router and there is no need for a separate router.

Even Vanguard pushes products to some extent.

I think the OP should skip the TD and go with Vanguard. It is easier dealing with a brokerage than the TD.

TD is fine with I bonds because one cannot buy I bonds anywhere else.
