As an example, the extended service contract for my Toyota has a 30-day window for a full refund provided that you have not used the contract benefits. After 30 days, you receive a pro rata refund minus certain fees and the exact detail is state dependent.

There is a new pending legislation on CDIC insurance, but it is still pending.

Otherwise, it looks like 100k per account with additional coverage for RRSP, RRIF and trust accounts.

Your choices for interest disbursement are:

(1) credit back to CD (paid at maturity);

(2) monthly payments; or

(3) quarterly payments.

There is not an option for payable at year end for no penalty CDs. To get the year end disbursement, you have to open a CD that is not a NP CD.

There is a difference between maturity and sale. If you redeem at maturity, there is no T + 2 involved. The maturity proceed plus accrued interest should be credited to your account at the close of business on the maturity date. I am almost certain that a good form like Schwab follows that practice....

My guess is that the IRS made a mistake.

If you have access to the online tax transcript, you can get one and see what their records look like. I am curious if something happened in the e-filing and the code G was dropped.
