Has a trust been created for the OP's nephew?

Ally cannot open a trust account unless a trust is in existence and a copy of certain parts of the trust is provided to their trust department.

The will means nothing if a trust is never properly created.

sounds like CA........if it is, I have routinely mailed it in first wk in Dec for decades and no problems. I think the fine print says they even do it using the postmark date like the Feds do for income tax..........but I've read that not all mail gets postmarked so it might be a bit risky to reall...

One of my former employers always zeroed out accrued vacation at year end so that it didn't have to book the accrued vacation expense on the books. In addition, if one didn't give the required two week notice, they deducted the difference out of the final pay which included YTD accrued vacation pay....

It is obviously Ally’s own internal policy. Ally is regulated just like other banks and other banks seem to have no problem with e-statements.

They use one of the two oldest excuses in the book: (1) the government forces us to do it, and/or (2) our computer/IT system is not capable of handling it.

Yes. In the old days, we had to do manual journal entries to reclassify some investments as cash. But investment software took care of the classification and interface with the general ledger.

Your plan administrator should have provided a notice about your 401(k) distribution options upon termination of employment. Such a notice is mandatory. So, check inside the packet that you received.
